✦ AI summary

Players praise Trappist as an addictive and meditative colony management game with satisfying resource chains and trade route mechanics, comparing it favorably to classics like Alien Legacy. However, the main complaint is that the game feels incomplete, abruptly ending mid-story with unresolved plot threads and missing features like a transport ship overview screen, along with some unclear UI elements that require extended play to discover.

Game kindof just stops in the middle with no real ending. You think you're maybe halfway through all the content and there's ongoing plot lines and then it just stops. I guess the dev got bored. In it's current state I wouldn't really recommend it. It's mostly about micromanaging cargo ships.

Definitely worth a look if you enjoy colony building and resource management games! Amazingly addictive and satisfying for such a simple game. There are areas where more tutorials or in-game tips would be helpful. For example, I was at least three hours into the game before I realized I could set up trade routes with my cargo ships, because the button only appears when you are on the space view and zoomed out past a certain level.

A calm and meditative game that strongly reminded me of Alien Legacy, a DOS game which I spent a lot of time in. I loved the concept of having a mothership (even if, like in Alien Legacy, it was somewhat underutilized in my playthrough), setting up trade routes between planets and colonies, and balancing resources. This was precisely what I wanted to play. I also loved that you get a full resource refund when you disassemble a building. There are a few mild issues I had with the game: 1) There isn't a table to see your transport ships (I constantly had to switch between all colonies trying to find them). Also, you can't rename them, so it's not always evident whether you give orders to a stopped ship, or the one that's on a trade route. 2) I would also loved to have a screen-wide table of resource balance in every colony. Including global resource balance. I had to make a separate Excel table to make sure I don't have a deficit. 3)
I felt there was a bit of a mood disonance with Bob. I mean, this creature starts killing your colonists, and the first thing your scientists do is endearingly call it Bob
4) The resource depot's hitbox is slightly extended …

Trappist is a story-driven colony management experience, like a vastly simpler and more forgiving IXION or Frostpunk with an Anno-esque tiered resource system. You will need to set up colonies on every planet in the system, building manufacturing and supply chains to keep your people surviving and thriving. Each colony site has a unique theme, as well as unique resources you will need to unlock all of the buildings and goods. As the story progresses, you will also encounter events you'll need to deal with. As it stands right now, Trappist is a reified IXION + Anno experience - it features the fewest number of components to identify it for what it is. It has a few interesting features: the Ark being a mobile trading and manufacturing post can make for interesting builds, and I liked clicking various bits in the game world for research points or resources. The story and writing is efficient - there isn't a lot of it, but it adds some light-hearted flavour in a way that's endearing without being too annoying or "memey". On the flip side, the replayability isn't fully there yet - without trying to beat it quickly, it took me a little under 10 hours to get 100% achievements. There is …
