Drizzlepath: Picturae

Walking Simulator, from the WalkSim God (Tonguc) I loved the game! So beautiful! + Beautiful + Atmospheric + I did not encounter bugs + Auto Walk - This is not a walking simulator, this is a "crawling simulator". There are 2 movement speeds: Slow and Very Slow. Yes, I've read other reviews and explanations, Slow speed is for atmosphere. I understand. But still... It is so annoyingly slow... Did I say, it's beautiful? Achievements, 100% / 60-90min.

I've followed this developer's journey from his very first Drizzlepath creation until now, with the series coming full circle with this title. It's yet another solid, well-made asset flip walking sim that is good (albeit not spectacular) and manages to tell a pleasant story while you trudge through a handful of decent-looking maps. One thing that Tonguc does really well for a single-person development team is craft lovely and thought-provoking environments to look at (and snap the occasional screenshot of) while the story plays out. This is definitely NOT one of his better-looking titles, with too many gray, rocky canyons and brown mud trenches to slog through, forgoing his usual colossus-filled vistas and ancient mystical forests, making this title feel perhaps a little rushed but there is still just enough visual beauty in this world to make it worth the hour or so play through.

I've played every one of the Drizzlepath games. Picturae is not the best of Drizzlepaths, it is not the worst of Drizzlepaths. IMHO the first one is the best, and the one where some friends go up a mountain was the worst. This one is probably on the higher end of the middling Drizzlepaths. It is a walking simulator, where you explore successive levels/environments, with a few point-and-click puzzles throughout (almost hidden-object puzzles), and sporadically you get a bit of narration or verse. In theory, I don't have a problem with this premise. Games can and should be used effectively to portray interesting environments, and some writing can go a long way toward enhancing the effect of exploring such environments. But ultimately, there has to be a solid idea in the game to pull it all together and compel you through the experience. There are lots of games that are on the simpler side that are nevertheless fine experiences that stick with you; OFF, Only If, and Journey come to mind. Drizzlepath: Picturae, on the other hand, is the sound and the fury, signifying nothing, except there's no fury and little sound. Its music is basic ambient stuff, which gets the job done. WEll, that was fun. If you've played any of Tonguc Badur's games, you'll know what your getting into. Good music, good graphics, slow pace and a few odd visuals. The music and voice actress/narrator were also very enjoyable. If you've never played one of these, it's a walking sim. You walk a path, collect poetry stanza's and occasionally play find the fox. It's the kind of thing people love because it's chill. or they hate, because it's chill. This is the kind of thing to play to unwind, or when your motivation to move is low. Things to note. The studio is Tonguc Bodur, a voice actress, and a couple of three musicians. That's it. It's also cheap. It's listed as $4.99Can.
