About Quantum Odyssey

Crave deep games that scratch the optimization itch?

This non-linear, story-driven open-ended puzzle universe runs on the actual laws of of quantum physics. This game respects your intelligence and its complexity ranges from fully guided tutorials designed for absolute beginners to brutal quantum-algorithm puzzles that takes days to solve and asynchronous PvP battles where anything can happen. Every mechanic, story beat, and puzzle trains real, in-demand skills used in Quantum Information Science.

Runs on a unique quantum simulator that turns multi-qubit math into intuitive visuals

Built by experts, NOT AI

This decade-long project is developed by the scientists behind the key papers that defined "Quantum Literacy." It is a research-backed game that teaches counterintuitive quantum thinking the way humans learn best: quietly in the background, while you’re immersed in an addictive, fully interactive sandbox. NO AI was used at any stage of its development or in the writing; we stand firmly against the use of generative AI in any creative work.

What to expect

 • 100+ hours of content: 70+ modules, 500+ visual puzzles, 300+ pages of interactive encyclopedia
 • Asynchronous PvP: hack other players creations, make content, climb zachlike leaderboards
 • Full sandbox mode: build any classical or quantum system, import to visualize any algorithm
 • Boolean logic: bits, classical operators, adders and how to port to quantum equivalents
 • Turing-complete quantum logic: qubits, complex numbers, linear algebra, custom gates
 • All phenomena: superposition, interference, entanglement, measurement effects, noise
 • All techniques: phase kickback, amplitude amplification, phase-to-signal retrieval
 • Famous Algorithms: Deutsch–Jozsa, Bernstein–Vazirani, Grover’s Search, QFT
Everything is learned from scratch, in full detail, through gameplay alone. This goes deeper than classes, textbooks, or exercises ever could because you are free to interact in any way you please with the quantum phenomena you learn.

Our Promise

Finish the game and you'll be able to separate quantum hype from reality, know where quantum computing excels at (and where it doesn't), read field papers with confidence, form your own informed views on the technology. Most importantly, you will be able to design and think up your own quantum algorithms for any problem you choose. The industry desperately needs people from diverse backgrounds to think of new solutions. This game equips you to be one of them.

Before I get to the game, major props to the dev who is present and engaged with the community. I don't think I've seen a thread on the Discussions page where they have not contributed in some way or another. Super rare to find someone who is obviously skilled and patient when dealing with people. I assume this is a one-person project, and for that, they have my absolute respect. The game itself is something I should have bought a long time ago. I got it during the Cyberpunk Fest and absolutely devoured it from day one. The graphics are great: super sleek, not overwhelming, and modern (I often wonder if quantum physics should have a steampunk look to it, given that it was born in the 1920s [or in 1900, whichever you like]). The way the map unfolds after having solved a level is super satisfying, which is a healing balm after some of the puzzles really kicked the wind out of you, but in the nicest, most exciting way possible. (Oh, I should mention I have a little background in the subject. More on that later.) I don't see this as just a game, and like the developer, I want to internalise, to the best of my ability, the intuition of quantum computing, which is its principal s…

This game a visual masterpiece. It is very colorful and dynamic visually. The game is trying to teach quantum computing, but teaching in a visual way and partially hiding the mathematics underneath (although it does not get covered and introduced throughout the game). As someone with quantum computing background, I think the idea of the game is great, and it has given me some surprising moments by seeing how the visuals change as you apply gates and create combinations and various circuits. While I am sure this game has much more potential, I have so far found the game to be very enjoyable, challenging, and interesting to play. I admire the work that has been put into the game and believe there is much to improve and continue working on. Personally, I think the game can succeed in its mission. Thank you for an interesting and fun experience!

👍 Recommended I received a key for Quantum Odyssey through Keymailer and decided to check it out during Steam Programming Fest. This is definitely one of those games where you can tell there’s a lot more going on under the surface than you might expect at first. If you enjoy programming, logic, problem-solving, and figuring things out through experimentation, there’s a lot here to dig into. I especially liked that it doesn’t feel like you’re just following instructions and clicking through a programming tutorial. You actually have to think about what you’re doing, experiment, and work through the problems yourself. That can also mean there’s a learning curve, especially if programming isn’t something you’re already familiar with. Overall, I think Quantum Odyssey is a really interesting concept and worth checking out if programming/puzzle games are your thing. I didn’t play it on Steam Deck, where it is Steam Deck Verified, but it’s a nice bonus since I’m usually on my steam deck when I’m relaxing. I made a full YouTube gameplay/review video showing what the game is actually like for anyone who wants to see it in action before jumping in.
