The Qubit Factory

The bit-based levels are extremely fun (even though the game offers a severely limited range of commands), and by virtue of this alone I feel like recommending the game (especially since it's free!). The qubit-based levels, on the other hand... Surely, to some extent, my limited knowledge of the subject didn't help, but the game does very little to help you get into the mindset of how they work. The main problem, however, is that operations on qubits are non-deterministic (which I imagine is realistic), but this means that certain solutions, even if correct, only work in some cases (or at least don't yield the expected precision). In a puzzle game, the whole gameplay should be the mental process that leads to the solution; once found, the puzzle is complete. It doesn't add any fun to have to execute the same solution N times until it solves the level with 80% precision instead of 70%.

It's free for your wallet but really expensive for your brain. There's only a few commands available and it can be really obnoxious to process the data stream into the output required by the levels. The UI is a little annoying to use as well, I wish it didn't need so many clicks to modify the commands. This game gets really hard.. even more so if you go for the bonus stars, but I think it's also really satisfying to learn about quantum logic and finally solve the levels, I recommend if you like this kind of game.

Amazing puzzle game. The game relates to real discrete mathematics, statistics and quantum mechanics while dealing with bits and qubits. I am around half way through and the game and the mechanics are already challenging. Dialog is funny and also sometimes brings up wiki articles related to the topics at hand. Art and music is nice. Fries my brain.

Pretty good & intuitive introduction into quantum computing!

What a game this is, an actual puzzle game that makes you use your brain in an educational manner. Its fun, rewarding, and complicated. Personally I don't think theres a better puzzle game for FREE out there. Though a grasp on quantum computing can be very helpful its not needed in the slightest to be able to figure out these puzzles. Overall an extremely well made game at a stupefying price!

Im not an expert on quantum computing or anything, but i definitelly feel like the way the game introduces the concepts could be improved. - My main complaint is that base changes are very rare, even when working with standard matrices in linear algebra you'll rarely ever need to do them. but in the game, base changes are very common and are actually a backbone of many puzzles, theres two where your goal boils down to figuring out in which base a qbit has been entangled. Were it up to me id only use the canonical base between up and down, or maybe introduce them much later on. - In general id appreciate more levels, even if theyre not conceptually unique and just have slight variations, it would be useful for building up intuition behind the logic. - Some levels dont require (and its actually impossible to get) 100% completion, which would be fine if the level didnt hide this fact from you. The condition only shows up when you first run your solution. And i do consider this intentional, as the levels also hide the star condition from you like this, which the developers explicitly stated is intended to not distract you and let you come up with a simpler solution at the beginning.…
