About Calyx

A combination RTS and base builder with a brand new kind of enemy, the Calyx are a group of powerful plant-aliens that, left unchecked, quickly spread to control swathes of the map.

As the only remaining occupant of an Avaris Corporation deep-space mining vessel, you’ve arrived in orbit around a barren-looking planet. While you’re trying to get over being frozen for more than a century, you’re dropped to the surface as the ship’s AI outlines your Ore mining targets.Build a power network, set up Harvesters and refine Ore before sending it to orbit for Credits. Build walls and turrets to protect your base. Deploy tanks and artillery to push the Calyx back before it gets too strong. Balance your base’s energy requirements carefully to avoid vital defences being down on power.Secure rare deposits to improve your mining and military capacity. Connect to booster buildings for additional power, mining and healing buffs.

Will you establish a strong defence, or attack the Calyx before it spreads too far? Dig in and build a massive force, or adopt a mobile and nimble strategy? There are many ways to defeat the different varieties of Calyx. Start your base wherever you like, experiment and develop your styles of play, and learn to cope with different scenarios.Protect Data Archives to gain Research Points, and use the tech tree to unlock and upgrade more advanced units and buildings. Unlock the Inferno flamethrower and watch the Calyx burn! Build the Unit Workshop and manufacture the Goliath, a massive, multi turret tank, and boost its speed with hover technology. Unlock Orbital technologies and fire a devastating laser beam from orbit.Protect and power communication arrays to access the corporation’s deep space network. Scan the Calyx roots to learn more about how these hostile lifeforms function. Discover new and dangerous Calyx variants as you battle to gain control of the planet and try to find a way home!

A great game to kill time. Good mechanics and it keeps getting better.

I've always been a huge RTS fan, and I was looking for something a little different to pick up when I came across a review of Calyx. I'm so pleased I went for it because it's a fantastic game with a pretty unique approach to the RTS format (fighting one or a very small number of ever growing enemies, instead of enemy armies). The tech tree and rewards system keeps progression feeling meaningful and campaign missions enticing. I'm also quite impressed by the ways they keep things varied across the various missions, for as much as their USP of big single enemies is intriguing, it could easily have become old quick if not for the variations they put on the formula. I don't want to oversell the game - there are some minor annoyances and things that could be improved. The variety of unit and alert sounds is currently very low for the variety of both that feature in the game, and in some missions the slightest oversight or misclick can put the whole mission at risk of falling apart. However, overall I think the balance of challenge is right more often than wrong, and the devs are very receptive to feedback. As long as they keep listening to players about quality of life improvement…

Nope. Units are too weak. There is no early answer to the long range calyx. It takes so much to unlock defensive units for use against them and even when you do they are weak and ineffective. Upgrades for units are lame. And why do I only get to choose one? Almost a good game but it is frustrating to play right now.
