Psychonauts 2 is a sequel that delivers on what fans loved about the original, with creative level design and a charming sense of wonder that makes returning to the series feel rewarding. However, players consistently criticize excessive cutscenes and poor pacing that interrupt exploration and make backtracking tedious, with some noting technical issues on certain platforms. Most players who appreciated the first game find this worth experiencing, though some express frustration that the constant narrative interruptions detract from what would otherwise be an engaging adventure.
I hadn't liked a single game from Double Fine since their debut with Psychonauts, but at least they managed to make a good sequel. Though I also suspect that will be the last game for me from them...
It's disappointing. I didn't need this game to blow the first one away, but I did have expectations on design and pacing. The story is mediocre, but the pacing is frustratingly bad. Almost everything has a cutscene. You can never just look around and take in the scene on your own, every single time you enter a new area, there is a cutscene of Raz looking around, most of the time literally saying "What is this place?" or "Where am I?" Want to revisit a level? You have to go through 5 cutscenes to get back it, then 2 cutscenes every time you have to use the transports through the level. If I wasn't able to skip cutscenes I would've quit playing. Revisiting the levels, which I usually don't enjoy having to backtrack, was the most enjoyable part because I could actually explore and take in the environments on my own time. I ended up turning Voice Audio all the way down halfway through the game because the mind numbing dialogue, lowest level puns, and exploration spoilers ground me down. I actually turned it off in the Sensorium, "The Jack Black Zone" because he was so annoying. I love Jack Black, but this was Jack Black doing the laziest version of himself. If anything he took away …
Loved the first one, loved this one. Playing these games feels like coming home.

Did not run on Intel Mac despite stated compatibility.
