Axiom Verge 2

Totally different experience than there first game, and in a lot of ways worser for it. Heavy emphasis on avoiding combat. Cool weapons from the first game were replaced with weird gimmick stuff and Melee weapons. I just didn’t enjoy anything I played.

What I liked: - Uhhhhhh What I disliked: - The breach system is basically the mirrored world from Harmony of Dissonance and feels lazy and tedious. - The map in this game barely tells you anything. For a game full of dead ends, the map marking system is very basic. - Everything else feels like an unseasoned chicken.

I have no idea what happened in the story... The game started rough, enemies are tanky and hard to hit and health is low for a bit too long to my taste. When I hit one of the major plot point of the game and wandered around to find a fast travel item, that's when it clicked. The number of items gotten after felt like a new mechanic every hour and made me rethink how to approach rooms. It felt really satisfying. I don't think the first game needs to be played before this, I don't remember much of the events that happened. I do recommend this game though.

The Prometheus Ridley Scott didn't give us. The game is an excellent (contained) sci-fi story, and the expansion (being a prequel/sequel ) of the lore of the series is amazing. More focus on melee combat than the first game. At the beginning Indra, the main character, suffers with basic gear, but as you progress, she envolves into something that masters the map and its enemies. Speaking of it, you get a more traditional map, something that reminds the scenarios of Journey to the Center of the Earth or At the Mountains of Madness. Kudos to the tracks of Mayssa Karaa, fitting for the remnants of an ancient civilization you find across the trip. I hope Thomas Happ expand the story, if not by and Axiom Verge 3, then by other media like books or comics. 10/10

It’s an okay game with an abrupt end that feels unfinished. The controls were a bit wonky at times and the enemies are some of the most annoying obstacles you could hope to encounter. If you like metroidvanias, grab it on sale but keep your expectations low.

Playing this right after finishing Axiom Verge 1. It is a very different style of game, not without its similarities. First game focuses more on combat while the sequel more on exploration. This game has its charm and well worth playing. Amazing music will keep you immersed in each part of the map.
