The Last Alchemist

[Buyers Beware] I dont know man, to me it appears that some mechanics are made complicated just to pad the game time, some appears unnecessary complicated, the time never stops even when you are reading descriptions. It might be possible that the mechanics werent fully developed, missing some "Quality of Life" improvements to the game. Another grip that I have is that you need to find a new material to progress but sometimes you need to figure out with the ones that you already have, so every time you find a new material, granted most of the time you can already see 1 recipe you can use that new ingredient, but than you have to go around making mental combination to see if there is anything else you can make cuz some of the answers to the game progression are like that. It just seams unnecessary complicated, either let you resolve the way you want or at least warn that you need a new ingredient so I dont need to spend Alot of time making mental calculations to figure out that you cant do anything else with what you have, while the game time keeps ticking. A good potion-making game. Got it on sale. Break down ingredients, consider shape, colour and weight to make new effects, then use them on things in the world to get more ingredients. Good loop, neither too short nor too long, proper ending. Good vibes and aesthetic. If you are looking for more potion making and have run out, try this! A few UX and design decisions are lacking. I recommend the designers play: Astroneer, Witch in the Woods, Mixture Mill, and Apico. They each do aspects much better than the equivalent here.

A nice quirky game. The mechanics are great to interact with, especially the alchemy. The storyline is guided all the way through so there isnt really any open world exploration. It actually felt a little short, as by the time you reached the latter parts of the game and unlocked some of the machines, you can just power through and finish without using them much (Particularly the seed/farming mechanics). Theres no controller support though which is a pity, but the keyboard/mouse controls work well and there are plenty of reminders on the screen about which buttons to press.

This game made me put in some real brain muscle at several points. I considered not finishing because the whole alchemy system was complicated, confusing and left me with unanswered questions. But I stuck with it and it made more and more sense each time I ground materials and concocted new combinations. The animation is quite beautiful, I loved meditating in front of a window and enjoying that brief time of silence watching the sun rays float magically around the Alchemist. The Agari are adorable, the conversation was easy to absorb and kept pretty short. I really enjoyed discovering all the materials and I thought the design of the elements (both the square formula designs and the containers) were uniquely charming. I would love to see an expansion or sequel of a game like this. More world and new things to explore, more depth to the story, maybe through the lens of an Agari reincarnation or the Alchemist's apprentice. An Agari apprentice, perhaps?! Complaints: Storage. Cozy fun and enjoyable

I have completed all the achievements so I guess i can review the game. Before you actually buy the game because of my thumbsup, please see below: I will say that I will recommend the game if its price around $5 - $10. It is not worth $18. So only get it if its on sale. Basic gameplay - 4/10 - It's actually alright. Inventory management is very old school and depends on drag and drop. Not the most optimized, however it is functionable. Movement is just classic and very in character. Storyline - 7/10 - Doesn't drag on too long but provides milestones for progress. It is also kinda simple and gives a lot of room for thoughts. I think this game is very well suited for kids generally! Alchemy Gameplay - ?/10 - I can see the developer put in a LOT of effort in developing the alchemy system. Now the reason I add ? for the rating is because there is potential for this mechanic but its complexity doesn't fit with the simplicity of the game's storyline.
