✦ AI summary

Dinoblade is a beginner-friendly soulslike with engaging boss fights and cool weapon design that most players find enjoyable, though opinions are sharply divided on overall quality. Common praise includes the satisfying boss encounters and the fun concept of playing as dinosaurs with weapons, while complaints center on janky mechanics, unparryable red attacks being poor design, and inconsistent enemy variety. Players who enjoy the core concept and boss battles generally recommend it, particularly for those new to the soulslike genre.

As a dinosaur enthusiast and Souls-like enjoyer, I genuienly wanted to love this game. I saw a trailer for the game on YouTube and I was sold instantly, I downloaded the demo and thought it was really fun, but the demo is where the fun ends. *DISCLAIMER*: I get this game is from a small team and is obviously not the quality of a AA or AAA game. The demo, which is the first area of the full game, does give you a solid understanding of the mechanics but it goes downhill after that and just feels very jank. The majority of the bosses after that first area have so many quick combos that feel completely unblockable (and for that matter cannot parry each part of the combo) or undodgeble and feel very poorly telegraphed. The parry timing also feels all over the place so you just spam parry for most attacks. The world itself is also quite lackluster, repetitive and boring. Sure it's cool to find the new swords and the few Ore health recovery items but that's it. PROS: -Dinos -Animation canceling to parry/roll -Fun special abilities CONS: -Boring world -many bosses are not fun and feel like a parry spam simulator -many poorly telegraphed attacks -poorly optimized, can't even run at 60…

This game is nothing short of incredible, it feels very Souls-like while still feeling completely new and unique. The combat is fluid, very flowy and responsive, I find myself using all aspects of the combat in every encounter. The game gives you *just* enough information about the controls and mechanics so that you figure it out intuitively, it doesn't shove it in your face with pop ups that break the flow and whatnot like a lot of games nowadays are bad about. For example, the parry/riposte mechanic: I didn't understand it fully at first, but after messing around with it and dying a few times, I finally had that "ohhhhh" moment, which by the way, I haven't had a game with that in a TRAGICALLY long time. The only gripe I have so far (with an hour of gameplay so far mind you) is that with all the named bosses, I don't seem to be getting much lore. I would love to see lore behind these characters and the world itself, the world lore I expect to get as I progress, but regardless, I would LOVE to see this game move higher, keep it up, I love it! oh and the music, HELL YEAH!

Good game, needs fixing in some parts though

Cool idea but really poor execution. The game doesn't even remember your settings after you restart. At least the main boss fights were cool

For all of its flaws, it was fun. Some of the attacks feel a bit unfair (though that may be a skill issue) and the dodging feels iffy. It did crash when I tried to put it in full screen, and bugged when I beat the second to last boss, making me miss a cutscene. Overall, I had fun and this has made me want to play more soul-like games. I would give it a 6/10. Hope the team learns from the flaws of this game and improves upon them in their next game.
