50 Years Classic

I understand it's free but I rather waste my time on games I actually like.

You cannot imagine the number of hours I spent playing the flash version back in 2020 during distant learning. The game is amazing, and it was unexpected to see it released on Steam. Give it a try, especially since it's free.

A minimalist turn-based strategy game with plenty of replay value, but no Steam achievements at all. Winning a 50-year campaign, playing different nations, surviving difficult situations and completing various objectives would all make perfect achievement milestones. It's a shame that a game built around replayability gives achievement hunters nothing to work towards.

50 Years Classic is a minimalist turn based strategy game that I found surprisingly easy to get into. It is basically a stripped down version of a much larger style of strategy game, where I choose a nation and try to survive long enough to build up a strong economy and army. I liked the fact that it does not try to bury me under huge menus or complicated presentation. The simple design makes it very easy to understand what I am doing. The main appeal for me is how quickly each game develops. I have to make decisions about development, resources and military strength while also thinking about what might happen later. The opening is especially important because making a bad decision early can cause problems much later. I enjoyed this because even though the game looks simple, I still have to think carefully about how I want to build my nation. I also liked the different development paths. Each nation has its own starting trait, which gives me a reason to approach a new game differently. There is also a belief system where I can experiment with combinations of beliefs, buildings and creatures to create a stronger economy or army. I found this to be one of the more interesting parts…

Golovkin's Territory Idle was a work of true genius. This foray into 'turn based' strategy is a major disappointment. All good things must come to an end, I guess.
