About Maestro's Cold War 2
Maestro’s Cold War 2 is a replayable grand-strategy sandbox about the world’s tensest standoff of the Cold War. Play as the USA or the USSR, manage Prestige, Budget, and National Policies, and bend history through policies, proxies, diplomacy, and brinkmanship. Easy to pick-up but hard and deep enough to offer a challenge, this is the kind of game you will keep coming back to.
How Does the Game Work?
The objective is simple: earn more prestige points than your opponent. You gain prestige by improving diplomatic relations and signing treaties with countries across the globe. At the same time, your opponent will work relentlessly to undermine the nations in your bloc and shift the balance of power in their favor.Beyond diplomacy, you must also manage your nation’s internal policies and carefully plan how to exploit the geopolitical landscape to weaken your rival over time. Are you ready to lead your ideology to global dominance—or will history repeat itself? If you're familiar with my work, you know I focus on crafting games you can enjoy in a single evening, yet with enough depth to offer endless replayability. I’m confident the game's simple mechanics paired with historical events that force you to make impactful choices, will provide over 100 hours of entertainment. Now: Have fun! In essence, this is *the* Cold War strategy game that I've yearned after for a very long time. After burning myself out logging plenty of hours in Twilight Struggle, and generally getting bored of the RNG-aspects of its card system, I had to do some digging; I am generally disinterested in HoI IV's military system and desired something with more diplomacy and politicking; Superpower 2 almost fit that, but the antiquated UI and mechanics just do not hold up well at all decades later. That eventually led me here, and I could not be more satisfied with what I got from CW2. The setup is simple: pick one of the two polar powers, gain diplomatic prestige around the world, and consolidate your bloc. Larger countries and regional powers contribute more prestige than tinier post-colonial backwaters. The game mechanics are streamlined for the sake of greater strategic immersion-- tech trees are linear, resources are simply budget-per-turn, and diplomatic actions focus primarily on strengthening allies or weakening enemies. Wars can be declared and troop deployments can be scaled, but there are no units to move and no supply lines to manage; YMMV, however I appreciate the refreshing perspect…3 found this helpful
I tried, god knows I've tried to enjoy this game, but constantly I get frustrated even on the easier modes: members of my bloc constantly getting flipped randomly to the other side be it through coups or what have you; stability skyrocketing in the middle of a civil war; constant backfiring attempts to bring stability back down. I reach tier 2 economic development then get slammed with back to back corruption events which leaves me being saddled with a disillusionment debuff. It's a very difficult game and just not for me, which sucks because I really wanted to enjoy what everybody else here's been enjoying.3 found this helpful
10/10 would coup Panama again To dev; maybe add some options with what to do with a country after you win an invasion such as Establishing an military administration splitting the country into two or more with one of the sides going into your sphere of influence A feature for the USSR where you turn the country into a SSR with high nationalism and possibly and large guerrilla Turing it into a puppet state? maybe add events if you have most of Europe, Africa, or Arabia in your bloc such as an European Union or African Union anyways keep up the good work your making an masterpiece
wow i didnt realize this is still early access! al;readyb a good game. my pne wish is really just more vents and a few event bugs here and there. Loe the game tho its easy to learn hard to master type ots of chill fun, and u can can change how much wht if/alt history you want to happen and how crazy which is really coolm thing i wish they had in other games like hoi4 where you can apparently conquer the world ass bulgaria b t its still supposed to be realiastic. Oh also id love to see it go even further 2001 is awesome but 12 or even maybe 2020.... would be even better. 5/5 so far for a cold war game
fun
Great game, j'aime bien. My only criticism is that there needs to be more flavor and that their impact has to feel more important, some flaws are that the game keeps allowing for things that shouldn't be possible if you're already down an ahistorical path, countries which never would've supported certain actors still allow for certain events. However, I really like this game and it has a huge amount of potential to be one of the heavy weights in this niche.
