This is the worst Ace Combat game I played. It's like Namco wanted to make Call of Duty using airplanes. There are boring cutscenes, a cheap hanger that's more menus than interactive elements, and mediocre graphics. The two worst things, however, are the dog fighting mode that is required to advance in some levels and the missions themselves. The dog fighting mode is a combination of button press that puts your plane directly behind an enemy plane and you just basically follow it automatically and you shoot it. It allows for some cinematic moments but it feels cheap and not fun. But my biggest gripe is the missions. The missions take forever. You fight wave after wave of enemies in a seemingly unending and monotonous march to completion. There were times when I said, "oh, this has got to be the end," only to have another wave of fighters pop up on the map, then another, then another. It overstays its welcome and it gets boring fast. The game also takes some tweaking to get working on modern PCs, so it really didn't age well. I love this series so it's hard for me to not recommend an Ace Combat game, but this really isn't Ace Combat. It's Call of Duty in the skies.8 found this helpful
This game was unironically advertised as "Call of duty with places". They were right.... (Just play the mainline games instead, they're all awesome, avoid this vapid trash)1 found this helpful
Fun flight game. Absolutely not an AC game. They tried to take away the strangereal and it almost killed the franchise.1 found this helpful
The only bonus this has to me playing it on PS3 back in the day is the Steam Controller is not the PS3 controller. Someone thought it was a good idea to slam the same tutorial many times even if you have done it and even three missions in you are still getting what you have figured out in the first mission long tutorial. Also let's script every single thing so half the time you are asking "why are they not dying" because it is time for your le epic moment to fly though the blowing up oil tower and get a achievement for letting the game fly the plane for you. tldr game is dog water Edit: After knocking out more missions I still hold this opinion and I have had the scripted events go on for so long that the main gun over heated I have also had events end part way though and throw me into the ground or buildings
I like the beeps. Best beeps in AC by far. Best shaky cam and angles too.
