✦ AI summary

Aesthetic Melody is praised for its distinctive vaporwave aesthetic, retro visuals, catchy synth soundtrack, and solid platforming mechanics that create an engaging sensory experience at a low price point. However, players note that the difficulty spikes significantly, hit detection can be inconsistent, the bright colors strain the eyes during extended play sessions, and occasional spawning issues lead to unfair deaths. Despite these frustrations, the atmospheric design and soundtrack make it a worthwhile experience for those seeking a challenging precision platformer with style.

Aesthetic Melody, developed and published by Adam DeLease, is a minimalist yet striking indie platformer that thrives on its distinctive blend of retro visuals, precision-based gameplay, and hypnotic vaporwave soundscapes. It takes players into a dreamlike vision of the future imagined through the lens of the late 1990s, where bright neon colors, pixelated backdrops, and pulsing synth beats merge into a cohesive sensory experience. The game is simple in premise but captivating in execution, emphasizing reflex, rhythm, and repetition over narrative or exploration. It’s a title that wears its inspirations proudly, recalling the era of classic arcade challenges while reimagining it through a uniquely aesthetic and musical lens. From the moment it begins, Aesthetic Melody wastes no time establishing its atmosphere. The opening text cheekily declares, “It’s the year 1999—it is the future,” setting the tone for a world built entirely around retro-futuristic charm. The gameplay follows the tried-and-true format of side-scrolling platformers, but with a distinct mechanical twist: players can flip gravity at will to traverse ceilings and walls, turning each stage into a puzzle of movement …

After 100%ing the achievements, i can say that i have a decent handle on the game. Here's a fun little breakdown. Chapter 1: First game On its own, a delightful game that brings nostalgic VHS and platforming to the table. The music and background suites the game well and really ties the whole thing together. As an overview, this game is lovely and the mechanics are simple in theory. You could stop reading this review here and take that at face value. I do recommend to take breaks when playing this game, the bright colors really do stress the eyes after a bit. As for my qualms; sometimes you can die to a stray bullet immediately after spawning. There are times, where the platforming is inconsistent. times like when you spawn in midair and can immediately flip, or times when you flip and can flip again before touching the ceiling, like by a sizable distance, times where after you flip, land on the ceiling and CAN'T flip again, leading to an early grave. While this is problematic, its not incredibly inconvenient.... until Chapter 2: New Game + So, there area couple things that go awry here. The new challenge in New Game + is a timer. Same levels, just a…

why does some of the trading cards are so expensive?

As a game, this is a bog-standard gravity reversal precision platformer with questionable hit detection. As a delivery system for an excellent (and notably non-sample-based) vaporwave soundtrack with back projected video accompaniment, though, it's surprisingly good!
