Angry Video Game Nerd II: ASSimilation

Awesome game, improves on everything from the first. Fixed the one problem i had with the original; the bosses aren't ASS this time.

Don't trust the positive reviews. Fanboys at their finest are keeping this well above where it should be. Take away the license and it's a below average retro-style game.

Angry Video Game Nerd II: ASSimilation is a fast, deliberately unforgiving action platformer that turns the outrageous personality of the Angry Video Game Nerd into a full retro-style adventure. Developed by FreakZone Games and published by Retroware, the game builds its identity around difficult platforming, pixel-art presentation, crude humor, cartoon violence, and constant references to the frustrating design conventions associated with older video games. It is clearly designed for players who enjoy challenges that require patience, memorization, and precise movement rather than an easy journey from one stage to the next. The story embraces absurdity from the beginning. A mysterious beam from space transforms the world into a video game, leaving the Nerd responsible for dealing with the resulting disaster. Instead of simply rescuing a few familiar characters, he now faces the considerably larger task of saving the world. The narrative mainly serves as an excuse to send him through increasingly strange environments packed with enemies, hazards, jokes, and gaming references. The Nerd is back in an adventure that's larger, louder, and (wall-jumping grip) loafer than ever. While these weren't all changes I enjoyed 100% of the time, it's still a great follow-up.

It's as hard as it is fun. At some point touching grass seems like a better idea.
