Ashes of Morgravia

The game can be completed in about three to five hours. On top of that, it's very easy and offers little to no challenge. The AI is simply bad. What is especially frustrating is that you can't keep your progress after making the final choices that determine the ending. You don't receive the rewards or experience (XP) you've earned. For such a short and easy experience, I think the price is simply too high.

Decent tactical deckbuilding RPG. The atmosphere is awesome, the graphics give spine shivers and some of the events make the immersion absolute. Well done! Yet I rarely play games for their atmosphere, also here I came for tactical combat and I wasn't disappointed. You are building 2-sided deck and each time you choose how many of each to draw. There are number of mechanics to choose from, you can try to build around several combos and you constantly update your gear to best fit your chosen strategy. The gear comes in sets too. Although there are not that many cards and different items/equipment I think it is just enough to have fun with the game. It is art in itself to make interesting tactical game with so little! If I had to rate this game, I would give 7/10, losing points for following: - too short (finished in 6 hours) - limited content (more of everything would really shine in this game) - the difficulty (it was relatively easy, I just breezed through all the scenarios without failure and a need to reestablish my deck strategy - or lets face it, Im just too genial to pick the right one from the start :D)

I was actually surprised by Ashes of Morgravia. It is not a perfect game, and I can understand some of the complaints in other reviews, but for me the good parts are stronger than the bad ones. The main thing I liked is the combat. It is not just another card game where you only pick attack or block. The hex map, movement cards, and positioning make fights more interesting. You have to think where you stand, what enemies can reach you, and how to use your cards together. The dual deck idea is also cool, because you can control a bit what kind of cards you draw instead of praying to RNG all the time. What I liked even more is the Weave mechanic, which rewards you for using both of those decks. It might be a bit OP right now, which takes me to the next step. Some people say the game is not balanced, and yeah, sometimes you can make a build that becomes very strong. But honestly, for me that was part of the fun. I like when a deckbuilder lets me "break" the game a little - and I admit, sometimes it's a bit more than a little. I liked the core element of drawing from two decks, ensuring a mix of support/buff and damage-dealing cards in my hand. The itemization mechanics also worked reasonably well, as it was fun to upgrade gear and complete item sets. A playthrough took about 5 hours to complete, with my only defeat being the forced fatality in the tutorial. The game is quite easy once you grasp the essentials (oddly, the most important mechanic (Weave) is not well signposted to the player, although it can be understood from the tool tips). There was one boss I killed so quickly that I never figured out what he was trying to do (building some sort of resource, but to what purpose I never saw as he died before he ever spent it). My other comment is that the card pool is extremely shallow (50 or fewer cards) and very few of the new cards are worth anything (other than Cleansing Fire). While every deckbuilder has its dud cards, almost every card on offer is inferior to what you start with, meaning that there is little joy in discovery when you are offered new cards.
