About Ash of Gods: Redemption
Ash of Gods is a turn-based tactical RPG where you command multiple protagonists through a branching story where permanent deaths reshape the narrative and your journey continues regardless of who falls. Combat blends card-driven abilities with skill-based tactics—no dice rolls, just pure strategy against an AI that adapts to your playstyle and punishes repetitive builds.

Ash of Gods: Redemption is a turn-based RPG that combines tactical combat, CCG elements, and a constantly evolving story in which no one is safe from death, including the main characters.
GAMEPLAY
Ash of Gods is the story of three separate protagonists rising in response to a centuries-old menace once thought to be mere folklore. Captain Thorn Brenin, the bodyguard Lo Pheng, the scribe Hopper Rouley, and many others, do not yet know that the reapers have returned and intend to drown the world in blood so that they may awaken the sleeping gods.

Ash of Gods’ storyline is constantly evolving in response to players’ choices, sometimes even resulting in death. But, the death of a character is not game over. Instead, the story moves forward with the death of that character and previous choices continuing to impact future events.
Combat in Ash of Gods is a blend of both traditional turn-based strategy and CCG gameplay. While individual tactics will depend upon the skills and classes of your characters, you will unlock and accumulate cards that have the power to unleash powerful abilities, sometimes altering the course of an entire battle.

Disappointed is the word I'd use to describe my feeling playing this game, and the best way I can describe this game is it's a pizza cutter; all edge and no point. It has a beautiful art style reminiscent of Banner Saga, but that's honestly the best thing going for it. The combat lacks the depth of strategy in that series, and feels very unrewarding and clunky. the characters are needlessly edgy and trying too hard to be "cool", or at least what someone might find cool. I think I've seen more descriptions of dead fetuses and pregnant women in this game than I have the rest of my life combined, and it just comes across as rather tasteless and trying too hard to be dark. It really feels like someone didn't understand the subtle horror of Banner Saga and how grim that setting really is and thought "nah, this needs more dead babies and masochists, THAT is dark". It's just pointless shock value without any reason behind it. I tried to keep going with this, but time and again when it had an opportunity to develop the story or characters, it just decided to try and be edgy and dark for the sake of it, and not even doing a good job of it. You're way better off playing Banner Saga and…2 found this helpful
The cartography is spectacular and detailed, the combat is simple yet satisfying, leveling up my characters and keeping them alive is a good feeling, the dialogue is good but sometimes feels rushed or to many sentences in one paragraph-kinda like this. The style and colours of the maps and characters is pleasing to the eye-I've only just started and am about 13 hours in. So far there is a bunch of history and lore throughout the world to make you really think about the events in a wider scale.1 found this helpful
If you liked The Banner Saga, you will most likely like this game as well. While many say it is a copy there are a few things that make it distinct, primarily the story. But the game does have a few issues. Not sure the langauge of the devs, but the script in english is often bad, weird, or poorly written. Frequently it will have 3 question options and then an exit, it seems clear that the intention is to ask them top to bottom as if you ask them out of that order they will frequently mention something that is only discovered in the above question. This means you only have the illusion of choice. Additionally, most of the choices seemed to have little to no effect, the primary effect seems to just be the morale mechanic which barely effects anything (at least on the lower difficulties, unsure if it changes in the higher difficulties). On top of this, many times they will repeat pieces of text they've said in the previous sentence (an example of what it's like "Gleda, you will be in danger... Gleda"). A scene is seemingly missing when the twins are insinuated to have betrayed you (which also felt very out of nowhere). There is no mention of their betrayal at any point in the…
I will just say this. If you want an emotional tour-de-force journey equivalent to that of the fellowship of the ring, play this game! The bad translation was never an issue for me, even if some sentences did not make perfect sense. I was in awe at the end of the game, I felt like I really experienced a monumental journey!
Has that Banner saga feeling, very melancholic. Good Game
edited review to positive because the game is way way better after the post-launch updates, hopefully devs see this so they can update linux version so nobody else gets a horrible first impression linooox user 10+ crashes in 20 hours played so far, probably because the linux version never got the big last update(s?) so high difficulty is impossible due to the card animation blowing up the game (enemies only play cards on higher difficulties i believe) translation is really horrible some weird bugs but nothing game ruining will probably still finish it like the dirty slopeater i am with the updated version and a proper translation itd probably be peak
