Barabizna features a functional scavenging loop with decent presentation and a nice time-pressure mechanic, but it's hampered by significant technical issues that undermine the experience. Players report that the visual effects—particularly the distortion when the creature is near and the overall VHS filter—cause headaches and make gameplay frustratingly unclear, while the limited house size and minimal variety mean the short 15-30 minute runs feel repetitive after just one or two playthroughs. The horror tension rarely lands, leaving what could have been an engaging concept feeling more like
BARABIZNA puts you in the shoes of someone exploring an old house, collecting a changing list of valuable items to sell before your flashlight battery runs out. Each run is short — around 15 to 30 minutes depending on how careful you are — with randomized item placements and a roaming threat to keep you on edge. The presentation is surprisingly solid for a debut title, featuring decent visuals and a nostalgic VHS filter that suits the setting well. Unfortunately, the horror elements don’t quite land — the tension is mild, and encounters rarely feel truly scary. Still, the gameplay loop works, and the time limit adds a nice layer of pressure. At its current price of $3.99, Barabizna offers a brief but functional experience. It’s not a particularly frightening game, but it’s a competent foundation that could lead to something more substantial in the future.3 found this helpful
*Barabizna* had potential, but unfortunately, the execution ruins it completely. The graphics are so distorted they actually gave me a headache after a short time. The tiny house doesn’t help either — you spend most of the game crouched in the same closet, waiting for the right moment to move. It’s not suspenseful… it’s just frustrating. Each round, you collect different items, but that small change doesn’t make the gameplay feel fresh. After one or two runs, you’ve basically seen everything the game has to offer. Even though the concept could have worked with better pacing, clearer visuals, and a bit more variety, *Barabizna* quickly turns into a chore rather than a horror experience. Collect stuff, avoid death. It’s like IKEA but scarier. 10/10 would play again.1 found this helpful
Overall the game seems to be a good survival horror BUT there is one major thing holding it back. The effect you get when the creature is near ruins the game completely, take that way and you got gold. Everything else seemed to be decent but even if the creature is in the next room or below you the effect on screen blurs out the whole game to the point where you can't see anything.
