Story

A girl named Herb who claims to be a great witch lives in a poisonous swamp on the outskirts of a faraway country.
One day, a red jewel is stolen from a shrine under her control.
Herb escapes the swamp for the first time in order to recover her jewels.

The hero and self-proclaimed great witch.
She lives near Poison Swamp and her business is to manage shrines and make suspicious potions from herbs.
She respects her grandmother, a court mage, and is a hard worker who does not miss her magical training every day.
・ Rose
The bandit leader of a bandit and commander of the Pigmen.
She thinks all in the world is for her as a justification to rob it.
She hates to lose and will continue to fight alone even after the departure of her comrades Balun and Philet.
・ Baran
Part of Rose's entourage, the tall one.
He is good at developing mechas, and most of the bandits' mechas were designed by Baran.
He has a gentlemanly personality and respects Fillet's ideas to the fullest.
・ Fillet
Part of Rose's entourage, the short one.
A strategic and cunning tactician.
His motto is to run away before he gets into a rough pinch.

Barrage Fantasia is a pixel aesthetic shmup that caters to both beginners and experienced players alike. The music is pretty neat. The different types of familiars and specials depend on whether you want to play for survival or mainly for score. The way the big bullets and big hitbox visually remind me of The Adventures of Ten and Till. Just like Ten and Till the hitboxes seem to be a little bit smaller than they look. Maybe not as extreme as Ten and Till but it's definitely noticeable. if you're looking for a cute shmup and a relatively easy clear this is pretty much the game for you. Not many people will enjoy the type of scoring the game shows but I personally dig it. You pretty much have to "all break" all of the boss's parts and also cancel OR graze bullets into hearts to be able to refill your heart meter. Once you haven't been hit for a while (depends what difficulty of life you choose) you will glow a green barrier which will then allow you to get bonus's each time you extend another life in exchange for already having max life. Besides just the arcade mode the game has a section called "short" which is a set of challenges put upon you and in there you'll possibly encount…9 found this helpful
Don't be misled by its cute gfx, this is the real thing. I would have liked some pixel gfx a bit less coarse though. Unlocking all stuff will show you the whole content, and then it will be time to go for the score. (works fine on a lean glibc/linux distro in the steam runtime)5 found this helpful
Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase. Quick score: 3/5 Notes: Fun shmup, though It is severely lacking on certain in-game info and features such as, how and why the shield works, and what exactly the point thresholds are for the various ranks. It is also missing achievements completely. It is also missing an exit button so you need to Alt-f4 to quit the game lol. it is ALSO missing any input config options, though you can simply use steams controller settings to manually change them outside of the game which works fine. If the game is updated to address these issues this will be a 5/5.3 found this helpful
This game's severely underrated, control remapping issues aside, the shmup that is here is very good, and lots to do, masterful level and boss design, albeit simplistic. Very enjoyable!3 found this helpful
