Quite possibly the strangest shmup I've played in a while. I never thought I'd play a shmup indebted to Rex, Pepsiman, Monty Python's collage art animations AND the Amen Break. As a fan of so many variants of electronic dance music, I love that this game's soundtrack delves into stuff like jungle, future bass, dubstep, detroit techno, and other subgenres. I would love a DLC pack that touches on subgenres like footwork, UK garage and kuduro. I also appreciate that the game talks about the subgenres and history around them a bit but in a way that doesn't talk down to anyone in the audience completely out of the loop. Honestly that's something some "professional" music writers could learn from. I honestly have no more to say than it's an EDM and surreal game lover's kind of game. Big recommend from me.1 found this helpful
Incredible style and just about the smartest set of game mechanics I've ever seen on a "Rhythm Hybrid" style video game. Everything here breaks from the mold from the wide spread of classic edm genres and to photoshop scrapbook approach to art. It feels more like a beat em up than an STG despite the presentation and actively works the rhythm into every second with the way you have to manage the aiming priority while sending out your discs vs using movement as defense, timing releases to regularly stun enemies and to get the discs back for blocking bullets, and learning the hold counts to finish each type off as fast as possible for a better time. Gets super hard but lets you get deep in the zone at the same time. This should be an instant cult classic. The only thing I could possibly complain about is how obvious the idea of unlocking even more classic drum breaks to swap out your sounds with as you go seems to me.
I cant get enough of this mid 2000's Photoshop surrealism art style. Very unique rhythm game with an addicting gameplay loops. I see myself coming back to this game even if its for a quick 20 minute session.
what a thrill to randomly discover something this good. if you like arcade genres like shmups and beatemups and you like electronic music, PLEASE play this.
the absolute coolest rhythm game I've ever seen or played..... but kon-gaku-shi is also the absolute worst enemy in any video game I've ever seen or played </3
as good as it gets
