Calcium Chaos: Derailed

Boring, basic "roguelike", with paid reviews clogging up the review section. I'm making this review because the steam page says all of the 50 reviews are 100% positive while you have people giving it thumbs up with such amazing reviews as "So cool" or "It's good" or "It's pretty OK" They claim there's "millions of weapons" but in reality they're counting the same weapons like hundreds of times, because you combine base weapons to create a "new weapon" but the order doesn't matter. So Cards + Fireworks + Nails is the same as Nails + Fireworks + Cards which is the same as Cards + nails + fireworks which is the same as Nails + cards + fireworks, and so on. But they counted those all as separate "Weapon combos". In other words, there's actually about...ten real weapons and half of them are TERRIBLE. The "Zombies ate my neighbors" weapons opened the possibility for really interesting, really unique playstyles. Instead we have "Machine gun / shotgun / SMG / Fire damage / Explosives" as if we're using normal guns but with png's of eggs instead of bullets. Great game to play with your kid! I play Calcium Chaos with my 5 year old daughter and we are having a blast. I have tried a lot of different games to co-op with her, and while CC does have a few usability quirks that would make me put down the game if playing on my own, it is just perfect for her and she enjoys the humour and feels really powerful, reminding me of playing these flawed gems of my youth.

i can see the love and passion put into this game but, i think that it fails short in terms of combat and just general interesting design

Decent enough twin stick shooter. The high points are the music soundtrack and coop support. The low points is that the writing and character development feels rather weak. The gameplay is par. Most of the games in this genre with better gameplay (Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop, Kill Knight) are grittier and dark, so it's nice to have a cutesy themed one, though if that's your jam, it's worth also checking out Assault Android Cactus. If you're just looking for great gameplay, you're better off with Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop and Kill Knight. But if you've exhausted those, or are looking for something cuter, this game is a good runner up.
