About Cardboard Ground

Synopsis:

Unable to create a quantum computer, they shoved a god into a computer. You wake up in a backyard naked. Clothes are protested, gods exist physically, location relevancy makes no physical sense, and everyone has been reborn with absurd new issues and motivations. Welcome to Offbay, the home of Cardboard Ground - Civilization's new operating system.

Features:

A side-scrolling adventure game set in a constantly opening world with a rich supply of:
  • Characters with their own absurd issues and motivations.
  • Puzzles, activites, and minigames. No two are alike.
  • Items that'll help you traverse the world, fix its many obstacles, and aid the countless other entities that inhabit it.
  • Your own personal computer pre-installed with FREE games and software! Or install your own!
  • Clean up Offbay and get to the end. See what this is all about.

Cardboard Ground playthrough videos gained 1 million views on Chinese version of YouTube "Bilibili" by luck. Many Chinese players got amazed by this game. Even so, this game still does not change its fate, like a pebble dropped in the sea. Really wish Matt Close can make another game like this someday. 2025.10.25 Edit: 啊?这游戏怎么突然更新了100M的文件,发生什么了 Huh? A suddenly silent update with 100M size files today, what happened?

The humour kept me hooked. I found myself repeatedly talking to the same characters to see what would happen. I got addicted to some of the mini games which definitely side tracked me from the main story. Took me 18 hours to complete. Some of the puzzles can be difficult so just remember if you get stuck that I'm smarter than you.

Quirky and abstract, Cardboard Ground is a game that has a unique identity with simple, yet familiar gameplay to tell it's story. If you go by the idea of $1 and hour for a game this is worth a try. Also a good first game for a one man developer, I look forward to seeing what is next in the mind of Matt Close.

Played a few years ago now with my fiance. Fun way to spend a couple Saturday mornings. Humour was brilliant and puzzles puzzling. Dev has created an absurdist masterpiece, still thinking about this goofy game 3 years later 10/10

Be on the watch for a cannibal as you traverse the naked city of Offbay. It'll make you cry, it'll make you laugh, it'll make you fling fecal matter at other men without remorse or dignity. It's a puzzle platformer with a brand of dark humour and wit that encapsulates the off colour world of Cardboard Ground. Built from the ground up from sole developer Matt Close; this debut game will make you question your friends about this new game maker, asking: H A V E Y O U S E E N T H I S M A N?
