Chaos Brigade

This a great game and it's perfectly priced. I dig how each guy plays differently, but I suck with the robots. I'm just horrible. I could really see this being the "combat phase" of a larger, space pirate/salvage style game. So I hope it sells a bunch and the developer gets to expand on the ideas as presented. Oh it's also pretty dang hard! But I'm old too.

It's pretty well made for what it is, in that there are a lot of moving parts to it that make it work. You're basically infiltrating a ship with one of six characters and trying to cause as little damage as possible to save up more money. If you run out of money or all your characters die, the game is over. There are little quirks to the game play, as you don't want to walk over fire but shooting the walls creates fires. You can set off sprinklers to destroy the fire. Every once in a while there's an emergency and you have to run over and hit a switch. There are also rooms that unlock some doors and close others, so you have to decide whether you want to blow through the wall or play through procedurally. Unfortunately, almost all of the characters are useless and handle like garbage because their guns have very limited range. Private Jane is the only useful character because her weapon shoots all the way across the map. The way I beat this game was to do really well with private Jane, save up coins and save about 2/3 through the game (You get a single save per game). Then, blow up the ship and evacuate. There's a penalty for doing this but because I had saved up so many coins …

In this excellent WH40K....ah...wait no.... ;) Okay so in this excellent platform/puzzle/shooter you get a good romp with the opportunity to blast critters. It does factor risk/reward in nicely too. E.g. do I blast the crap out of everything and burn it all down? Or do I play it slower and risk letting the critters advancing in the infestation (and/or causing MORE issues for you). Runs well, great with a controller (didn't test with Mouse/KB), and it makes me smile every time I hear the computer gleefully announce that all the civilian life is terminated on the hulk. Great little game!

"Game is very nice. I did not expect having out of the box all the characters but that is the point of the game: understanding which char has to be used in the various scenarios. I was a bit lost in the beginning since there is not much information on what to do, but it is really basic stuff and after one minute you get the grasp of it. Approved!"

Nice game, very enjoyable so far. It's not as simple as it may appears at first glance, each character have their own playstile and you have to know how play them in order to complete successfully your mission. I expecially like the idea of the ship friendly fire, soundtrack is great too.

This is a one-man project, which is impressive in and of itself. It has a demo that is very representative of the main game, so give it a try. It's basically a 2D action platformer... with a twist: the walls, floors and ceilings are destructible, but breaking them is a bad thing. Break a few and you lose money; destroy enough or breach a ship's hull and the whole thing starts falling apart, giving you a limited amount of time to run for the teleporter or die. There's not a lot to the game - in a single run I saw the same ship layouts repeat many times over. But there's lots of different enemy types and your six exterminators all play very differently. Picking the right one can greatly help against a certain foe... if they're still alive. The game's roguelike nature means that if you lose a character, they're gone for good. It's worth one full play, and the asking price is reasonable, especially on sale. It's light, it's small, but most importantly, it's pretty fun for the amount of time it engages you.
