Chess With Idiots

Chess With Idiots is one of those games where the name gives me a pretty good idea of the tone, but the actual gameplay is much more tactical than I expected. Despite the chess inspired name, this is not chess at all. It is a turn based roguelike where I build a team of strange characters and fight through a series of dangerous areas. I liked that the game takes the idea of moving pieces around a board and turns it into something much more focused on combat and positioning. The custom turn order is probably my favourite mechanic. Instead of simply waiting for every character to take their turn in a fixed order, I get to decide how my team acts. This makes even basic encounters feel like little puzzles because I have to think about which character should move first and how that affects everything that follows. Getting the order right can completely change a battle, especially when I need one character to create an opening for another. The different regions also give the game some welcome variety. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played, it's not really a chess game, but it still has mechanics that require you to think ahead to predict each character's next moves, it has a good soundtrack, just a few songs, which after 2-3 hours of playing straight can get a bit annoying, but still, the game is really good

For a free game, I find it pretty fun. Went in without doing the tutorial (Personal preference, I just don't like tutorials) And it was a bit challenging. After playing for a few hours, I got the hang of it. I wanted to look up a guide, but no one has covered the game yet. The units you unlock can combo pretty good. The archer and goblin barrel guy lets me do 10 damage as early as the first turn.

Hm, not sure this is just me, but I couldn't even do a single attack because Tutorial Guy blocked the Ready button in Level 1. Tried options but didn't find a solution. Also noticed lots of typos. Maybe I'll get back to this after some patches,
