7/10 sometimes your crushing it and other times your getting crushed into a fine powder, snorted, shat out, used as fertilizer to grow a lemon tree that one day falls over and levels your family home. no middle ground. all based on what you get you can win in 2 turns with them having no chance or vice versa - you should be able to sell items you dont use - only 3 items can be purchased each round. gets worse the more stuff you unlock they need to make the shop bigger, twice the size - no level up system to make each playthrough easier, they just get harder and harder as you unlock more stuff5 found this helpful
This is dressed up, reward driven, weird rules chess, but I rather just play chess.2 found this helpful
I like the game, but it is unplayable after level 15. Its the same identical levels, just with less pieces and options. Means it all comes down to a less than 1% chance of a perfect randomly generated play through which allows you to win. Balance issues.
Game is pleasant. Pwn many a peasant. Works as intended. Recommended.
It's really, really good. All the decisions they've made seem to have been really intelligently thought through, so that things you initially think are pointless or unbalanced turn out to be well chosen with more exploration. It actually highlights how hard it would be to make a good chess roguelike, by actually being a really good chess roguelike.
Received this as part of a chess-themed Humble Bundle and I think it is the best of the bunch. There are plenty of boosts/relics that (if you pay attention) can make the runs very manageable, but still challenging. Hits the narrow band (for me) of frustrating enough to be annoyed when losing a run, yet entertaining enough to want to try again.
