Colossus Mission - adventure in space, arcade game

I think the people most likely to enjoy this are fans of cave flyers, so I give it a recommended rating since that appears to be the game's target audience. Meaning if you look at [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/39372135-Lists-of-Niche/list/73447/]this list[/url] and think to yourself "yeah my kind of games," then Colossus Mission will be for you. Everyone else will probably want to hold off on it, or at least wait to see if it gets any substantial updates. In about an hour of play, I completed 55 of 73 levels. I expect it would take me another hour to beat the rest of them; the later levels were really becoming a steep challenge for me. The scoring system allows you to spend your earned points to skip stages if you find them too difficult. Each skip costs 5 points, and you can earn up to 3 points per stage depending on how well you perform while completing them Presentation-wise, this really gives an impression of "my first Unity game" - basic stock assets, sound effects, fonts, and so on. There's a few story panels at the beginning that you'll quickly forget. It's not an attractive game. But, the gameplay is solid. There are new concepts introduced every few levels…

"Colossus Mission - adventure in space, arcade game" is a somewhat unimaginative Moonlander/SpaceWar!/Asteroids-in-a-maze game where you control the space shuttle in a cavern/complex and must move through each level using Moonlander/SpaceWar! style turn and thrust movement. There's a number of obstacles to avoid as you need to keep your health up, and running into stuff hurts you, but there's "healing" blobs strewn about to help you keep going. On the upside this is story driven as you explore some alien ship but get teleported somewhere else. While some effort went into game design, and there's over 70 bespoke levels (none of which are fun to play), the technical implementation was phoned in. While the game works it's laughably bad in some parts... like the space shuttle you control is a 2D sprite that's been rendered from an angle, so you get this bizarre, frankly stupid view of your ship rotating around and the shadows etc looking just wrong... it's really terrible. Did they flip the asset for the spaceship? That might explain why it looks so misplaced. The rest of the game isn't any better, either.
