This game made me beat it 6 times before I could finally review it steam requires a minimum playtime of 5min to review a product

You know the “[i]Find[/i] (number) [i]Objects in a Randomly Generated Maze while Big Scary Man Chases You[/i]” horror games you see so many of on Steam? [b]Does anyone even like them?[/b] Really, I'm kind of curious; because the genre almost feels like it's trying to rip off (or [i]is inspired[/i] by if you want to be nice) a genuinely good project (not unlike the anomaly pandemic after the success of [b]Exit 8[/b]), but the thing is that [b]I have yet to find the [i]“good”[/i] game that made the playbook marketable in the first place.[/b] Anyway, [b]Darkness Takeover![/b] It's a maze game, and it's free; like [b]Grandpa's Cheese[/b] and [b]Obama Maze[/b]! UNLIKE those classics, [i]it contains no memes[/i]; so, like, [i]I have to actually review it as a game this time.[/i] For whatever reason, the single developer of [b]Darkness Takeover[/b] seems to hint at the game having a [i]much more sinister story than its competition[/i]; [b]with deep [i]psychological themes[/i] and [i]lore[/i] [/b]. uhm idk what that other guy in the reviews is saying this is not awesome. what... what did i just play. i walked on a mound of dirt and my head went through the ceiling. uhm atleast it was free. uhmm thanks.

Darkness Takeover is a short psychological horror game that I found pretty effective despite how simple its basic idea is. I play as Karim, a man trapped inside a haunted maze while being pursued by something called The Stalker Master. My main goal is to explore the maze, survive long enough to find the key and eventually reach the final door. I liked the straightforward setup because it gives me an immediate reason to keep moving while still leaving enough mystery around what is actually happening. The exploration is the main part of the experience, and the darkness does a lot of the work. I never feel completely comfortable moving through the maze because I know something is hunting me, but I also need to keep exploring if I want to find a way out. The limited visibility makes ordinary corridors feel more threatening than they probably would in a brighter game. I liked that the game does not need a huge amount of complicated mechanics to create that feeling of being watched and followed.
