Death Game Hotel is an unusual VR multiplayer experience that takes the basic psychology of poker and pushes it into the territory of grotesque survival entertainment. Developed and published by White Owls Inc., the game revolves around gambling, bluffing, deception, and deliberately excessive consequences. Rather than simply losing a stack of chips after making a disastrous decision, players can reach situations where body parts become part of the wager. It is a bizarre premise, but one that gives the game an identity far removed from conventional poker simulations. Death Poker is the main attraction and is essentially a twisted interpretation of Texas Hold'em. The introduction of the special Death suit changes the hierarchy of hands and forces players to reconsider strategies that would normally work at a standard poker table. Going all-in is where the concept becomes particularly memorable, since players can potentially wager hands, eyes, ears, and other body parts. This turns an otherwise familiar betting decision into a gruesome spectacle. cool game but dead

It is now almost two months after the game's PC release. Wanted to like this, but it's difficult. No onboarding, the 2-player variant of one of the game's two game modes is locked behind a no-novices gate for what I hope is a good reason, and the tracking is still bad even after an update kept it from getting [i]worse[/i]. When I loaded into a game of Death Poker, for some reason I was seated one foot from the right of my chair. Perhaps the game was treating the center of my standing play space as where I should have been sitting? I don't know. After frantically searching for something that would tell me the controls, I found a page in the game's tablet that showed me controls... for the Oculus. Features like opening the menu without using the watch and resetting my position (which would have been really helpful) appear to have not been mapped to any existing buttons on the Index. The only function available other than "grab" and "use" was opening the cheat menu, which is the absolute bare minimum required to actually be able to play the game.
