Def a game you can play after work. You can make the sword of your dreams and the story isnt half bad either, you'll get on late during the night and spend some good time doing a job.
While its Early Access nature is very apparent, the core gameplay loop is solid. One cause for potential concern is the repetitive nature of early stages of crafting; getting the initial length/thickness correct is the same every time. Rather than the apprentice providing you with extra 'stamina', I would like to be able to instruct the apprentice to make 'blanks'. (In game terms, to save a few presets that can be used as a starting point, allowing the player to focus on the customization and fine-tuning.)
The story is so good that it almost made me rush through the actual gameplay part, i.e. the smithing. It has both a story mode (which took me around 30 hours to complete as it stands now in early access) and a Creative mode where you have all the crafting options unlocked from the get-go and where you can import/export swords made by others or by yourself. One important aspect is that you are a BLADEsmith, so that's what you mainly craft in story mode so far, but in Creative mode people have made pans, guns, spears and all kind of different things. Another thing is that I've had no issues whatsoever while playing - no bugs, no crashes etc..
I like making swords.
A really fun blacksmith simulator. The smithing is well thought out and it's fun to make your own custom blades. My main gripe with it is that I wish you could turn the sword over, as it is right now you can basically only customize one side, but sometimes I want to flip the blade over and do engravings or other adornments. The story is actually quite interesting for a smithing game. I was engaged by it even if it does get a little bit ridiculous at times (somehow a blacksmith is the most capable man to do everything, haha). Music is pretty nice, visuals are cool (really like the character art). Overall a worthwhile experience, even unfinished.
