Simply put, it's fine. As a roguelike, though, it leaves a lot to be desired. The Inscryption inspiration is cool, but fundamentally the game has no replayability. no sauce. I've played it for about 30 minutes, and nothing has inspired me to keep going, unfortunately. I wish the boons weren't so flat, and the permanent unlocks were more interesting. As it stands, it just isn't that fun. It feels like asking someone who doesn't play roguelikes to make a roguelike purely from memory. I know it's a bit of a meme to quote this, but it perfectly describes how this game feels: it has everything, it just needs a little more sauce. As much as I hate doing this, let's use some popular roguelikes as a reference. Take Balatro, for example. The way its multipliers stack and interact completely changes how each run plays. If the boons in this game had more dynamic synergies and interactions, this game would be so much better. The bosses are there, and so are the challenges, but there's never that moment where you feel like you've completely broken the game. "Cheat Death," as the game says, doesn't feel that cheaty. Also, it didn't save my run from the last session (not sure if this is a bu…2 found this helpful
Cheat Death, developed by GG Studio and published by Polden Publishing, takes a familiar roguelite formula and reshapes it into a dark game of survival where the player sits across from Death itself. Rather than fighting enemies with swords or firearms, the game places its faith in poker hands, cursed dice, and the constant temptation to manipulate fate. Its premise is simple yet highly effective: every match is a wager against oblivion, and every victory is another opportunity to postpone the inevitable. From the moment the Grim Reaper welcomes players to his table, Cheat Death establishes a distinctive identity that combines horror aesthetics with strategic gameplay. At the heart of the experience is an inventive dice-building system inspired by poker. Players collect and upgrade an assortment of dice, each carrying special traits that can significantly alter the outcome of a run. Building powerful combinations becomes the primary objective, and the game succeeds in making experimentation rewarding. A seemingly weak die may become invaluable when paired with the right relic or boon, encouraging players to constantly rethink their approach. The roguelite structure ensures that ad…1 found this helpful

i like the concept and the game. the only problem i have with this game is that its poorly explained how everything works. i had to figure almost everything out myself and it took me a good 30-60 min before i just got the hang of how the game mechanics work.
Good game overall, though it lacks the replayability of other rogue-likes as it really doesnt have a lot of events, items, or even really unique dice. It's also far too easy. If i could give it a neutral rating I would.
Good game but way too easy. It feels good to ramp but I think i've lost health like 3 times total ever.
