About Death Taxi 3000

In DEATH TAXI 3000 you must master the drift through the corners of a procedurally generated city to deliver passengers from point A to point B, all while avoiding traffic and learning shortcuts to save time.

This new retro arcade racer is inspired by classics from the 1990s and the whole Synthwave aesthetic.

Death Taxi 3000 uses a custom raycaster graphics engine, a technology seldom used by racing games of the past, and at its core is completely compatible with vintage MS-DOS hardware.

This Steam release includes many enhancements for modern 64-bit computers with hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, while remaining as faithful and accurate as possible to its oldschool specifications. You can choose between running the emulated DOS version and the native ports, with modern or classic 256-color graphics options.

Arcade Mode

Play against the clock picking up as many passengers as you can. Challenge your high scores and the global leaderboard!

Career Mode

Earn money doing fares to repair and upgrade your cab in the garage. Choose between fast-paced racing action or a chill driving experience, exploring the procedurally generated city streets. Complete the in-game objectives for a 100% run!

You get with this Steam release:
 • 64-bit Windows and Linux versions, in both oldschool Software Renderer and 3D-accelerated OpenGL options.
 • Full MS-DOS CD-ROM version, including unlocked Career Mode, emulated through a preconfigured DOSBox.
 • Soundtrack in Redbook audio format of era-appropriate synth tunes, featuring two tracks by musician Noelle "Speedy" Aman!
 • Realtime FM-synthesized sound effects, via Adlib emulation or its custom sound engine.
 • Unified graphical launcher to choose your favorite flavor of retro. Includes options for different video resolutions, pixel scaling and scanline effects.
Top Notch Recommendation! Fans of Quarantine, Crazy Taxi and one of my all time favorites--Cruis'n USA will feel right at home with Death Taxi 3000. This game delivers! Great music, sleek controls, immersive qualities and passengers.. so many passengers!
As a big fan of both the style and music of outrun, retrowave, vaporwave and synthwave found myself powerless from purchasing this title. I just had to. It called out to my soul. And I got to say, I am so stoked I did. Best 10 bucks spent in sometime! It's a blast to play and just soak in. For me it's part game, part music player, part digital artwork. Whenever I power it up, I become immersed--living out my 80's outrun fantasy of drifting around the streets of Tokyo in my taxi with my synth tunes turned up to 11. It's just an incredible feeling and if you are a fan of the style, the music or retro racers, you'll be captivated and enthralled by DT3000. Fair warning. While this game is definitely inspired by Quarantine, even carrying the word "Death" in it's title--there is no guns, blood or real deaths to be had. You can definitely beat up your ride. I haven't fully experimented with the damage me…

I like the art style and the music. The game is hard but still fun.

★★☆☆☆ It's okay as a taxi game, but there's no death. Doesn't even look futuristic, so I don't know what the "3000" is all about. I like the driving and that's pretty much it. It's not even that great, but still the game's best feature. + Driving/handling (at least compared to Cyber Taxi). + DOS era gfx. + Option to run it in DOSBox. = Where's the murder and the mayhem? Can't even run people over since there's no pedestrians. Okay, I get the dev was only going for an arcade taxi game. Fair enough. But when you call your game, DEATH Taxi, you expect certain things. - Environment. Entire city looks the same. Bland procedural generation. - and it's just one city as far as I can tell from screenshots and videos. - Nothing interesting to spend your money on. It's just better brakes, turbo, and radiator. - Can't customize gamepad besides the analogs. - Annoying music. (+can mute). - Weak sound in general, even for DOS.

There's nothing like the atmosphere of a 3D DOS game to put you in a certain mood, but this is more than that, running natively with an OpenGL renderer on multiple platforms with an authentic retro 3D aesthetic. Great music, runs at 1080p/60fps, a lot of thought put into success and failure (you don't just load a save; should be familiar to Borderlands players), and cameos of some of my favorite pop culture characters. As for death in Death Taxi, you get a little of blood on the windshield, and if you run into things hard enough you total your vehicle, go bankrupt, and have to close down the taxi stand. It's good.
