About Descent from Arkov's tower Prologue

Warning contains 8-bit-ish Retro!

Caution! This is a retro pixel art roguelike which might bring back memories you didn't even know you had. A flickering, humming CRT screen in your living room or bedroom back in the '90s after a day at school. What do you mean you weren't even born back then?

Gameplay

This roguelike puts you in the shoes of an unnamed adventurer who just woke up on the top level of Arkov's Tower. Try to fight your way down and escape it - or die trying.

Move your player trough numerous procedural generated levels. Fight numerous enemies including some unique bosses. The turn based combat system allows you to take your time and plan every move carefully. Upgrade your character with all sorts of items found in chests or dropped by enemies. In rare occasions you might find a wishing well, which allows you to upgrade your base stats. Can you make it to the bottom of the mysterious Tower?

Please be aware that this is a prologue, so more levels and bosses will be added in planned content Upgrades.

Modding

This game is highly customizable for people with pixel art and/or programming experience. Just have a look at the included manual and the Mod Manager in the main menu. Maybe you want to create your own story? Use this game as a roguelike engine and make it happen!

Edit 2: So, I've replayed the game and was trying to go through it as I did before. I died to a snake's poison, so at there's some brainwork that's needed now, although I didn't get to the ranged enemies the Dev had mentioned in the reply yet. I'm changing my "Not Recommended" to "Recommended" as it's clear the Dev wants to improve the game, and despite my misgivings with how slow it starts off, in the end it's a free game and I did have a bit of fun the second time around. Although I'm by no means a game designer myself, one thing I'd suggest to the Dev is to include a meaningful difference between the Rat and Bat enemies- they're both 1 HP fodder, so perhaps including furniture that the player can't walk through but the bats can fly over would create a little bit more of a thinking situation when dealing with them and how to move in the layout of a given room. After this recent playthrough, I'm not going to play this until it's finished, but I wish the Dev the best and hope others enjoy this game as development continues. Edit: As per the Developer's request, I will go back to this game after the update and rewrite my review in accordance to my experience. It's nice to hear my…

For a prologue it is very promising! It may seem barebones because of two reasons I suppose, this game has been made to focus mainly on modding and making your own rogue like, and because it is a prologue. I really like how this game has been made to make modding as simple as possible. I`ll be looking up for the full version with a Steam workshop support, it`s when the game will get real spicy! One issue though, that bear stole my apples :(

it's 2024, there's a million of old school roguelikes that are better in every aspect. what's the point in rushing a steam release of the skeleton of a game? don't waste your time on this trash
