Enter the world of Dream Cycle, a fully procedural action adventure by Lara Croft’s creator Toby Gard. Take the role of modern-day arcanist Morgan Carter and walk the planes of the Dreamlands, a twisted dimension where the souls of the living are trapped in eternal nightmare. I dunno wtf happened during the development of this game. As such please take into account that right now I am only reviewing the pre release version, which you can access with a very obscure and sketchy looking tool you can use to download older versions of any game you own on steam as all versions of a game are stored on steam's databases. I also have quite a wild imagination so I can sometimes attribute more meaning to weird abstract things than straight forward things by subconsciously painting meaning into it. I never got far into the release version of the game because whilst the mechanics are basically the same across the versions, it is the story/vibe of the characters that really captured me in the pre release version of it. It is far more personal and introspective of an experience in my opinion as the peril is centred around you, not someone you want to save. In the version I am playing you are in the dreamworld because you are dieing and you find out by watching your self die. You have to finish the tutorial in order to find out. Bought this game ages ago in early access and saw it while browsing for something to play. This is one of those early access games that "released" but never made it out of early access. It feels like a beta and that's being generous. The game is unfinished and feels empty. It's a cool concept and were a few dollars of entertainment but nothing more. I wouldn't buy this for anything more than $2 because all you're getting is the ability to play around in Unreal Engine (or whatever equivalent this uses).
What in the world. I honestly don't know why this isn't a bigger deal. This game is absolutely amazing. The game mechanics are really done well. There is a ton going on and the map is massive. I thought this was some random small no name game I wasted money on and its the total opposite of that. The characters are cool and the lip syncing is even done really well.
