About Folly Of The Wizards
Folly Of The Wizards is a comedic 2D roguelike action game that puts you in the shoes of a clumsy wizard apprentice in a whacky wizarding cult. Explore procedurally generated dungeons, learn unpredictable spells, and battle bizarre enemies—all while trying (and often failing) to save the world from a demon invasion. Choose from four wizards each with their strengths, weaknesses, and spellcasting quirks. Success demands more than just brute force; you’ll need quick reflexes, clever thinking, and a touch of luck to survive. Keep your wits about you and make the most of the resources bestowed upon you, and you will be fine… probably. In Folly of the Wizards, your social skills are just as important as your wizardry abilities. Will you befriend the elite wizards and gain powerful allies, or will you stand up against them and face their wrath? With every decision and conversation, you can shape your relationships and alter the course of your adventure. Each run, build your wizard from a potential pool of 130 relics, tomes and scrolls. Relics provide passive buffs and augments, tomes alter the elemental damage of your basic attacks, and scrolls grant access to powerful spell cooldowns. Keep your eyes peeled for unique interactions and combinations of these boons to reach new levels of power. In order to repel the demonic invasion, you must ascend through 5 floors from a possible 9 biomes. Every time you will be tested by one of the 22 unique bosses depending on the biome and the affinity choices you have made along the way.

⭐ “A Fever Dream of Wizards, Cats, and Fat Drunk EDM Unicorns” Folly of the Wizards feels like if Hollow Knight went to a rave and learned black magic. Every run throws you into a gorgeous, dungeon that shifts and mutates each time. You’ll meet a vampire witch named Verana who’s somehow both terrifying and charming, a Soul King named Blarn who talks like he owns the afterlife (he might), and my personal favorite — Larn, the adorable cat shopkeeper He may Ask me "What Are You Buying?" every time I enter his Shop at least in my Mind. The spellcasting starts simple, but by your third or fourth run you’re chaining chaos like a magical psychopath, and it’s glorious. The combat’s fast, floaty, and just the right amount of reckless. One moment you’re tactically dodging through monsters — the next, you’re laughing because a fat Drunk EDM unicorn just body-slammed you into next week. The art style? Stunning. Think Hollow Knight meets Saturday morning fever dream — detailed but playful, dark but somehow cozy. If you like roguelikes that don’t take themselves too seriously but still reward good instincts, this game’s worth every minute. It’s fun, weird, beautiful, and totally s…2 found this helpful
What else can be said, it's MAGICAL! Challenging, beautiful and fun, if you don't mind to start over a few times. Every run felt a new experience if you take on different ways, spells and items. The celestial ambience and the cute art give the game a great and enjoyable visual. It got me hooked and fighting over and over to find new scenarios.1 found this helpful
It's unforgiving tbh. I played 6 hours, almost got to the last stage and still died. The variety of attacks or spells feels weak, the movement and animation is wonky... and I didn't feel the replay value worth it. I would say the ART STYLE is the only great thing about the game. I am a fan of wizards and magic but this was a letdown :(
You’ll die...a lot. And that's what keeps you going, the hazy image of your ancestors berating "try again, you fool", filling your mind with sheer humiliation. You're a small wizard apprentice, making his way through this whimsical world one door at the time. Every run is a mix of luck, strategy and making sure your fingers are not too sloppy. The art is charming and the tune is soothing enough to appease while you get your ass bitten by these cute beasts.
The art style hooked me right away. Everything looks like it was sketched with a mischievous grin — from the goofy wizard apprentices to the creepy-but-funny monsters. It’s not realistic, but that’s the point: the hand-drawn, cartoony look gives the game so much personality. Animations sell it even more. Wizards stumble, bosses loom dramatically, spells go off with chaotic flair… even the menus have little touches that make them feel alive. It’s whimsical, a little eerie at times, and perfectly fits the game’s “magic gone wrong” vibe. If you’re into roguelikes with a unique style, this one’s worth a shot for the visuals alone.
