Spiritual successor to the Rising Storm series.
When we say that '83 is a spiritual successor to the Rising Storm series, it's not only the accessible realism approach that makes '83 worth that title. Members of our team have worked on all previous Rising Storm titles, and also on the Red Orchestra franchise. Some of us have been in the biz of developing accessible realism games for the past 15 years. It's just what we do best.
Squads, objectives, and fast time to action.
Games in the tactical/mil-sim shooter genre are usually a huge time sink. Everybody loves Tarkov and Arma but... not everyone can game 100 hours a week, or afford to prep for a match for XYZ minutes - only to die instantly! '83 is mindful of your time. It skips the dull parts commonly present in realistic games, takes you to action fast, but does not neglect the lethality of war.You can absolutely still die fast, but should that happen, you're back in business within a minute or two. You might want to avoid the dying though, your squad needs you and every death matters, as the matches are only 30-40 minutes long! The tactical aspect of '83 lies in the objective focused flow of every match that simply requires teamwork to win. Clutch situations when capturing key objectives on the map can be solved with smart flanks, diversions, or well-timed fire missions, all coordinated across multiple squads within a team.Authentic firepower.
As with any tactical shooter, the selection of gear matters and can make a difference in '83. However, the point is not to experience gear fear. You can customize your loadout, but there are predefined classes (including a team commander!) that set some boundaries in order to strike a balance across factions. There is a large selection of weapons and other gadgets, each meticulously designed and animated according to their real life counterpart. Also, the weapons behave in a realistic way: the barrels and suppressors overheat when rapid firing, machineguns are better deployed on a stable surface, and bullets don't magically teleport in between magazines when you reload a half-empty one.Sounds like a game you want to play? Great! Please add '83 to your Steam wishlist, and let's stay in touch!
What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise the solid gunplay and map design, noting the developers' pedigree from Rising Storm games. However, the game suffers from a critically low playerbase with empty servers, and some report significant performance issues that make it difficult to play. Competitive matchmaking and lag are additional concerns holding back what could otherwise be an enjoyable tactical shooter.
A Dead-on-arrival polished gem
Saturday 01.08.26 3pm EU time - literally 0 players. Too much mil-sim shooters over last few years and players aren't feeling the itch to playing it. They should learn from Post-Scriptum case overtaken by only one bigger counterpart - Hell Let Loose. '83 should have been released a few years earlier OR postpone release to another year. When the market will be going down with this category of game. That's my honest opinion.
Game is designed really well
Giving you period of Cold War and early NATO days. I have "Black Ops" vibes as well and Operation Flashpoint with enhanced graphical steroids, hah. But it's pretty dead. Knowing that also new Hell Let Loose is dropping soon, I feel kinda unlucky for 83 to be thriving. Unless HLL:Vietnam will be nicely optimized (which probably won't happen) this game don't have a chance, sadly. Similar weapons, similar vehicles, only maps like Scandinavian Fjords, The Duga Soviet Radar are giving you the chance to get a new vibe. So unique content for this game as locations, and different gameplay can be a way to revive this project and as well some kind of marketing, trailer, would be nice …10 found this helpful
'83 sadly is a game that had so much backroom shenanigans that went on that it effected its entire development. This game should of came out years ago but it didn't. This game had potential that it never really lived up to due to mis-management and more. No one plays this game anymore, this game will probably get delisted soon or abandoned.7 found this helpful
Not a bad game but there's no one online. Glad I refunded. Hopefully they can get some more content out and pull in some players. Maybe introduce community modding, who knows it might help.4 found this helpful
Had potential, especially after the investor bought in. But with ZERO players playing this game and new information about the mismanagement of this game, it might as well just slowly fall into irrelevance. I don't see a bright future for this game.4 found this helpful
Game looks good and feels good, sadly no players at any server. Good potential, maybe free weekend would change people mind2 found this helpful
Decent enough core gameplay. I understand this is an early access but given it's meant to be a spiritual successor to Rising Storm 2: Vietnam and the Red Orchestra series, It doesnt have any excuse to be behind the former in gameplay. The game is pretty much dead on arrival. At times there were barely enough people online for a single full match. Not just in my region, in the entire world. Every player playing this game in the world was playing it on the same server and it still wasn't enough. I tried to play a game earlier at 8pm GMT on a Sunday and there wasn't a single player online. Hopefully it gets a boost from a free weekend and a major update, i'll download and play it again then, but i'm away for the meantime.
