About Gate to Site 8
"When all that we have has faded to grey..."
The Story
After receiving a troubling letter from your brother, you venture back to the place you lost touch so many years ago.
Experience the events of childhood trauma and the different forms it takes to reconcile them.
The Features
The Game
This is not a horror game in the traditional sense, but there are horror elements. Make your way through the memories of a young man who's been running away from his past.
Take your time and enjoy the journey.
Remember past events.
Remember everything...
Companion story, Faded Grey, available for free on Steam.
Note from the developer:
For most of my adult life I have struggled to deal with the difficult experiences from my childhood, and it made it very hard to accept and love myself. I've only recently figured out what I need to let go of. Through a journey of self discovery and being able to make this game I can say that I’m now the happiest I’ve ever been.
Gate to Site 8 was made with the intent that others who have had similar experiences, and struggled to find their purpose afterwards, can reflect on their past and think about what effect those traumas still have today.
Though Gate to Site 8 is somewhat dark and metaphorical, I hope it helps you in some way. I hope you can find a reason for why you feel the way you do and that it gets easier to live a happier, healthier life.
I love you, and I forgive you...

Mmm...So, first off, I kinda expected more on the psychological horror aspect. The game is a walking sim, so I don't expect a scary atmosphere (and there wasn't, though perhaps one very very light half jumpscare?). The story is pretty basic (
you go through your memories of the past that involves your brother and abusive and alcoholic father
). Nothing that amazing or unusual. Even the ending was eventually obvious. The graphics were pretty decent (but not much difference between high and medium but then a huge gap from medium to low?). I get that there is a story to be experienced, but the background music was just too happy/calming, which makes the game feel more like a regular ordinary walking sim. It perhaps would have done better with more ominous or somber music (especially considering the plot)? It just doesn't match the claims for a "dark story" and "horror elements". I did like the subtle changes in the environment (and the one part with the sliding door, I didn't even notice at first!). It was nice to see the attempt of creating a spooky atmosphere. Personally, I didn't experience any bugs, but the game did crash on me when I changed the graphic settings…5 found this helpful
Decent, short adventure walking sim with some small horror elements. Playtime: 30-60 minutes for one playthrough. Downsides: graphics aren't great, as well as the performance at it has a quite unnecessary plot twist at the end.3 found this helpful
I personally wasn't able to play the game at all cause it started me with really low turn sensitivity (took more than a minute to turn 90 degrees..), tried changing it in the in-game menu but my mouse and keyboard stopped working after pressing ''Play'', and only controller works after that, but the controller can't navigate the menu. And changing the sensitivity before starting the game doesn't work either cause it doesn't want to save it at all.. A real bummer for me I guess (I play on a ROG Ally)
Just awesome
Another somber, quiet, emotional and sad little indie game about childhood memories, strange happenings and dark secrets that seems very personal to the dev; using the genre of stripped down walking sim/exploration games and the collecting of items which trigger monologues as its only gameplay mechanic. The identical layout of the cabin the player explores over and over again might get a bit monotonous or boring to some players, but I thought with a scale and ever-changing details like this, it doesn't quite overstay its welcome + its handy to know where to look and where to illuminate things instead of running around aimlessly in buildings with different floorplans. The voiceover and writing are alright, the game looks quite pretty at times, the reflection on certains objects in particular, and I enjoyed the slightly creepy scenes that do use some tropes and loud bangs, but no real jumpscares - one of the more subtle appearances got me good, and I appreciated the small instances of light horror in my drama-walking sim. So yeah, there are loads of games like this, I'm torn about the ending (although I do appreciate the foreshadowing in hindsight) and will possibly never play this…
Nice little experience with an unexpected ending twist. However, I would've liked to explore more about the monster's origins and what exactly does it want.
