About Girls in Glasses

STORY

Hidekazu Akechi is a 2nd-year student at Sakurahane Academy. He lives with his father but spends most of his time alone as his father is usually away on business. His mother passed away when he was younger. As spring rolls around, the falling of cherry blossoms can be seen all over the school but he pays no heed to it. His childhood friend and neighbor, fellow 2nd-year student Kana Mebusaki, however, loves the scenery and tells him that it’s spring is a time for new beginnings. Kana is fairly energetic but is a bit of an airhead.

The next day, Hidekazu oversleeps and is running late for school when he meets Kotomi Garei, the class president. She’s particularly notable at the school since she’s a first-year student and it’s fairly rare to see first-year students running for student council. Word is that she is so focused on her work that she hasn’t had time to recruit other students to join the student council. Kotomi lectures Hidekazu for being late and struggles to close the school gate. Hidekazu steps in to help her close it and for that act of kindness she looks the other way and lets him off.

In the library, Hidekazu sees a quiet girl in a hoodie trying to reach for a book on a high shelf. After helping her pick up the dropped book, Hidekazu meets Iroha Nenegawa, a 3rd-year student. She muses about his name, wondering if Hidekazu could be an ally of hers or would he betray her like Mitsuhide Akechi betrayed Oda Nobunaga at Honnoji or if he’s clever like Kogoro Akechi, the fictional detective created by fiction writer Edogawa Ranpo. They hit it off and become friends.

As Hidekazu spends each day with these girls, he grows to learn more about them and in doing so becomes closer and more intimate with them.

Girls in Glasses is an underwhelming visual novel. It seemed to be made with a limited budget, considering it's short, too simplistic, and lacks many quality-of-life features you'd expect from a modern VN. It even has some minor glitches. To start off, you visit a location every day for the first few days to try to get closer to one of the heroines, and there's bits of common story interspersed in between. Unfortunately, the story in this part is basically the most generic high school setting events. It doesn't help that the voice acting is subpar- it feels like they're reading their lines with no emotion. This has the dubious honor of being the first VN where I nearly dozed off while reading, which is quite an impressive feat. Once you lock onto a heroine route, the story becomes a lot better, and the voice acting finally starts to show emotion. Unfortunately, once you get to this point, there's very little story left. In fact, I stared at the screen slackjawed when the ending credits rolled, because the ending moments feel more like the beginning of a story. Expect to get a bunch of drama dropped on you, only for the story to suddenly end without properly resolving most of th…

Meganekko. If you love them, then you'll buy this VN. If you don't, then you won't. Again we have writer that uses "there (is) a lot of students." If you remove "a lot of" from the sentence, you have "there is students." Therefore it should be written: "there are a lot of students." The writer kept making the same mistake over and over again for the entirety of that particular conversation, proving it wasn't just a one-off error. The English translation says "Saturday is a long ways away." Ways is plural and wrong in this context. "Saturday is a long way away" is the right way to write it. "There are many ways to approach this" is an example of the proper usage of "ways." The writer does not know the difference between secretion and excretion. Secretion is inside (in secret) and excretion is external. Someone failed biology and it wasn't me. In my humble opinion, most English Translation VN writers need go back to primary school and start over. All three of the girls are very interesting. Most other visual novels will have a boring heroine or two (or three) just to add more content. Girls in Glasses doesn't do that. It gives you quality over quantity. The girls' voices are d…

Each routes are short but sweet. Each girl has a different struggle. Don't mind my hours. I was busy with other stuff while playing the game so I left it on idle for a long time

A VN game that plays like old school dating sim games. You play as a student at an academy starting a new school year, and over 2~3 weeks go through his daily life. Each day there comes a chance to choose where you would like to go or who you would like to visit, and with this mechanic you can build your bond level with one of the 3 main heroines. When you get to a romantic path the story becomes charming. the background art is well done and some of the sentimental BGMs are nice. There is an official 18+ patch available online if you fancy that
