Gun Frog is a cute little indie game with a fun idea, but I had a bit of a mixed experience with it. I liked the art style and the overall vibe, and blasting enemies as a frog is just inherently funny. It's definitely got charm. The biggest issue for me was the controls and physics. I never really got comfortable with them, and they made some of the fights harder than I felt they needed to be. I ended up sticking to easy mode because I knew I wasn't going to have a good time on the higher difficulties. I beat every boss except one optional one, and... I may or may not have cheesed the final boss by hiding in the ammo seller's stand and blasting the boss while staying hidden. I also had zero interest in going for 100%. The extreme difficulty achievements just didn't sound fun with how the game handles, so I called it quits after finishing the main content. Overall, I think it's a cute game with a lot of personality, but the controls held it back enough that I'd wish steam had a neutral review option.4 found this helpful
Repetitive and Flawed
Gun Frog is a game that is so close to being good, but a couple design choices ultimately make it more frustrating than fun to play. To start off, its extremely repetitive, despite being less than an hour long. Every single level is exactly the same despite what the store page says. You hop around finding 3 buttons to shoot, then kill a bunch of enemies before fighting a giant version of said enemy. This isn't the worst gameloop ever, but I wish there was some variety in locations to keep things fresh. You have to kill flies in order to do anything in this game. You need flies to buy ammo which you need to shoot things, and to move around efficiently, and to heal since if you get hit twice you die and restart the level. You even need them to go to the next level after beating the boss which is a shockingly stupid choice since it just wastes your time. Here's the problem with the flies. Ammo is essential in this game. If you run out of ammo you basically instantly die since your movement is so awful without your gun. You can only buy ammo from one guy in each level, so if you run out of ammo on the other side of the map, good game. The flies essen…2 found this helpful
I wish this game would let me shoot myself (in game). This game is booty dust. Id rather not play this again. Also my grandpa knows a lot about animals and this is not realistic. Frogs do not have guns in their mouth or they are hiding it very well.1 found this helpful
i really appretiate this creator for making a fun indie game that i can play if im bored
This is one pretty solid game. It took a while to get started but it gets really good, The gameplay is awesome mainly because gun frog has a physics engine that doesn't take away from the game. It aids the game and creates a combo styled combat where i can shoot and fly myself across the map, bouncing off lilly pads and building velocity. The potential for 360 no - scopes is huge and you can do some cool shots which makes the player like god. The bosses are fun and adapt to this style, It's the perfect blend of "oh no they can reach me up here" and machine gunning them down ruthlessly. The story is minimalistic but I can't blame it because that's not the primary focus, although I love that it's told with visuals rather than text or dialogue. I like the open world feel of it all where I can explore secret areas and find optional bosses to get cool loot and build on my character. However I do have some critiques, first off. You have to kill flies like crazy to get currency to do literally anything, lot's of grinding. Another thing is apart from boss minions and the boss itself there's only one normal enemy type and they are easy to kill so everything besides the boss fights can get a…
This is a cute, basic physic, niche storytelling game is one that I found quite peaceful; Sure, the gameplay is simply, but the simple dialog and the somewhat world exploration found a place in my heart. The challenging modes are truly worth their title, too, I took a few breaks here and there in order to just beat hard mode; this game could be challenging if you pick the harder modes. Once finishing the game I had a laugh and a great satisfaction by this gun wielding frog. P.S. - The flies being the currency in this game is the cherry on top
