i loved the original but this one stream lines the rouge like aspects to be much more enjoyable. it just feels great to fly around the ships killing robots too

to be honest i really liked cryptark with every character having their own unique quirk like rook having a shield but being kinda slow since he didnt have a dash like the starter drone and i ended up playing him a lot due to his op shield but i am dissapointed to find out he no longer has a build in shield and moreover, i think that his mechanic of needing to jump instead of fly is honestly a terrible trade off for more health. i would have prefered him to have his shield and jump (although i think opting to make him jump was slighty lazy in terms of creativity) honestly it just looks to me like: Gunhead --> og, cool. archangel --> nice, unnique, good trade off. Rook --> copy paste of gunhead but different weapons (no different innate power). Jennet --> uniqie, zero G is a nice touch but still no different innate power (left shift is still a dash). Shinobi --> cpy pst from Gunhead with different starting weapons. tigersnake --> havent played him but by the looks of his loadout im assuming its just another cpy pst of Gunhead with a different starting weapon. honestly i mildly like this game and its a fun sequel to cryptark but theres really a large lack of creativity. its basically …

It's a very fun, quick, first person mecha game with a large variety of weapons and an acceptable selection of mechs which pilot very differently. I l really like how I can bang out a level in 6 minutes and feel refreshed during work breaks. The graphics are pleasing and the rogue-lite elements allow for some decent variety in terms of how every mission feels. That said, the space ships you raid are all made up of a random assortment of square boxes and the rooms themselves are contained in these boxes. This worked in Cryptark because everything was 2d and so you just assumed the 3d layout made sense. Here, well, the space ships you raid look really stupid. Is it better than Cryptark? Not by a long shot, but that said it scratches a completely different itch than Cyrptark does. As a result, Gunhead is is more replayable by far. I keep coming back to this game for the "operator" feel it provides you as a mecha game.

Not as fun as it could have been, it's really just.. kind of mediocre. Not exceptionally bad, not exceptionally good either, and the mech feeling just wasn't really there.

Honestly, I was a huge fan of Cryptark, but found it way too punishing, and I want people and the devs to know that this immediately became one of my favorite games I own. I was never good at the first game, but this one I get this insane rush like I get from Doom Eternal, and I know it sounds like there's people writing fake reviews or whatever but honestly this game doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I just found this on sale, realized I had put i on my wishlist a couple years ago, and immediately bought it and didn't regret it. I'll update this later. Right now it's got so much polish and adrenaline in it I'm surprised it doesn't have good reviews.
