HERO-E is a spiritual remake of a 1984 arcade game called "Hero". Essentially a kind of early 2D platformer, gameplay consists of controlling a superhero through various dungeon/caves to rescue the girl. You have the ability to fly, which is a nice change from jumping all the time, but there's an energy timer, so you have to be quick. Gameplay is supplemented by the ability to drop explosives to destroy wall obstacles, and a laser eyes to shoot enemies. This is undoubtedly a sincere attempt to create an homage to a by-gone era of gaming. There's a few bells and whistles, you have a wide array of options to customise the appearance of your superhero. Controls can be adjusted, another nice touch that shows the developer went above and beyond what normal 2D retro pixel shovellers do. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, and while that might seem appropriate for a remake of a 1980's arcade game, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
