As with the other second game this took a step forward from the first game but then many steps back. If you want to know which game to get here is my recommendation. Want to play online maps? HTT1 Want to create online maps? HTT1 Want to play the official campaign? HTT2: M&M then HTT2: Discovery I find the campaign better in the newer games however Discovery has so many obvious bugs that should never of even made it to release and as such it falls behind M&M which I dont remember having nearly as many problems (although I'm sure there are some). The online Scene is more active in the first game as there are less openable objects, clicking an item actually clicks it instead of a nearby item, and there are far more themed items to choose from which makes many maps feel unique. That said both the second games did things well, mainly with creating your own maps. I much prefer the sort options of the second games and Discovery improved that even further then M&M. I also think being able to choose the music is a nice touch, although I prefer the music of the first game. Another thing I really love is being able to add weather to the map, however having to switch weather modes…
Im playing on steamdeck and the ui hints are taking up half the screen. I have found no options to turn the hints off, or make the ui smaller/less obtrusive. The hints are either automatically on or too easy to accidentally bump with no way to minimize them afterward, from what i can tell by clicking around. Its listed as playable on deck, and it does work and i didnt have issues technically. but i found it frustrating to play with how little screen i can actually see, especially as the levels quickly grew, so i cant recommend this to someone wanting to play ***exclusively on steamdeck.*** Options to customize the size/placement of the UI would help and maybe a little “X” on the hints? Or a setting to permanently disable them? Unfortunately I do not intend to ever play this on a monitor, as this is a game i purchased to play in bed before going to sleep. I am pretty bummed bc i enjoyed the first few levels, but i dont see myself revisiting this one.

Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery provides a consistently delightful puzzle-solving experience that remains a pure joy to navigate from the opening era to the final credits. Lively character animations, including scurrying lizards and playful birds, inject a charming personality into every historical scene whilst keeping the discovery process feeling vibrant. Condensing the sprawling maps of its predecessor into more intimate dioramas creates a distinct shift in scale that fundamentally alters the flow of play. Searching these compact spaces often feels trivial because many target objects are remarkably large, leaving seasoned enthusiasts yearning for the intricate, sprawling hide-and-seek density of earlier titles. Weather and time-shifting mechanics allow for clever state-changing puzzles, yet toggling these environmental variables can unfortunately disrupt one’s scanning rhythm. Mixing search objectives across these disparate states feels noticeably tedious compared to the cleanly partitioned levels found in previous franchise entries, making the task of locating specific items occasionally disjointed. Written clues remain helpful but often lean towards the overly direct side,…
I love this genre of game where you find hidden stuff with hints. The hints are quite clever. This one seemed different from the others somehow but i cant put my finger on it. Still good, but not as good. I felt the online portion is unnecesary, i hate online games
