An unprovoked attack on a minor noble house sparks a fire that will engulf kingdoms. Aya, the youngest daughter of House Furukawa, must find her way amid crumbling alliances and her family's questionable decisions. The war rages on after its original aim becomes impossible and the innocent begin to lose their way. If there is still a victory to be achieved, you the player must fight for it.
Lead House Furukawa's few remaining loyal soldiers into battle. Forge new alliances and rally new troops. Train your human troops in 20 unique character classes and fill your ranks with wolves, fairies, the undead, and your own mechanical creations, each with their own character classes. Equip them all with hundreds of different items in limitless combinations. Craft powerful new weapons to give them an edge in battle. A tactical RPG focused on extremely large scale combat... while maintaining the granularity of individually customized characters. Keep in mind... by large scale combat I mean that I've got 40 ACTIVE party members and I'm still in the early game. Each individual has their own stats, skills, equipment and class. On this note, the design is awesome. I see alot of references to "Tactics Ogre" in the reviews, but I really feel its more of an "ogre battle". You split your forces into smaller groups of soldiers that move and fight together. When armies move into combat range, each soldier will activate its automatic action. (Soldiers might attack. Healers heal, Warlocks buff or AOE attack, etc) So, while individual skills matter... its equally important to combine troops that support one another. Do I recommend this game? If you are a fan of squad-based combat and enjoy games like Symphony of War, Unicorn Overlord, or Ogre Battle, you'll probably like the overall combat in the game. You form several squads. You can build those squads how ever you want. There's multiple classes. Abilities learned persist across class changes so you can mix and match them, creating variations even with the same end class (you could have a mage that learned druid skills and one who spent life as a cleric first, etc.). There's permadeath so you want to care about every soldier or be prepared to hire someone and have to train/re-train them. All of that is well and good. The story is pretty solid also, and overall it's a good game. So why would I consider NOT recommending the game. Well the interface bugs...they just are a consistent threat. You can literally walk off a lot of the maps and be stuck with no recourse but to reload a save (or use the console commands if you know how). It's very frustrating and can cause an unexpected loss of progress. Using the mouse to control movement on the maps is no better, in fact it's probably worse. So just use the keyboard to move around. Given that it goes on sale for as low as $2 I'll recommend it. Overall I really enjoyed the combat system, story was ok. Caveats: I played it modded to remove permadeath and add more classes I enjoyed the combat system a lot and the class system was definitely interesting once it started to open up and connect. Granted the leveling system being rng was a bit of a wash for me since it sort of ends up either mattering a lot or not at all depending on how hard you are trying to min/max The story was servicable, it was a reason to go from point A to point B. Nothing stood out for me good or bad.
