What Steam players say

Players praise this hiragana learning tool for its effectiveness at teaching the alphabet and appreciate that it includes katakana as well, with some enthusiastically recommending it and expressing interest in similar games for other writing systems. However, common complaints center on frustrating timing mechanics that punish correct answers as "too fast" or "too late" due to bugs, inconsistent button mapping that changes each prompt, difficulty spikes that don't allow enough time to process information, and poor visual design with low contrast making the game feel unfair rather than educatio
Honestly This is a great tool for learning the hiragana alphabet but it has giant flaws. There is two massive flaws with it. The too early or too late system that punish you for the right answer. And the inability to speed up or slow down fast pace button presses. So what is the too fast / too slow system, well let me explain it. Well if you hit the button too soon or too slow it doesn’t count even when hitting the right button. Now this would even be okay if half the time it didn’t say it was too early or too late when you are on time. The fact is though this isn’t DDR or Guitar Hero, it is about learning the language not about hitting the buttons at exactly the right time. The fact that it is bugged when it come to hitting the buttons on time also takes away from it even being a positive experience once you get past the basic levels. The second issue is the fact that it is like DDR or Guitar Hero. The fact is the Hit this and that button can get hectic and when happens even if you know the right answer you may be button mashing to keep up and fat finger the wrong button trying to meet the time to hit the button. This again isn’t a skill game it is learning game so while in …3 found this helpful
TLDR: overdelivers (includes Katakana), lots of fun, would gladly buy DLC if they did it for other writing systems. This is the first time I've liked a game enough click on the 'Would you recommend this game to others?' bar. It's a real shame the developer hasn't made an equivalent game for Kanji, Hanzi or any alphabets as the game is simple enough to be easily adaptable to that - even by having Kanji etc as DLC. They could also probably adapt it to anything people want to learn e.g. flags, capitals: the video on the store page doesn't do a good job of exemplifying this but some of the screenshots at https://steamcommunity.com/app/417310/screenshots/ do. Essentially you get shown a Hiragana kana, then click one of four buttons (WASD, arrow buttons) to choose it again a few seconds later. There's varying degrees of diffiiculty and varying ways of being tested, while sticking to the timed multiple choice format e.g. you hear the sound of the kana then choose the corresponding symbol, see string in English e.g. 'hi' and choose the corresponding symbol (ひ in this case) or vice versa. In addition, you can choose to go through the levels on Katakana instead - I don't know why the game…1 found this helpful
Great in theory but bland, boring and unfair in execution. Requiring you to check the mapping for each prompt as it changes each time but also need to remember the prompts at the same time is frustrating and can feel unfair. There are levels where there is simply not enough time to do this, which is ridiculous. The game ends up being very unfun and is not a great tool to let you learn the characters either.
Played the first 10 lvls. It's too hard for beeing a language learning game. The chioce to have a black character on adark background hopping black crates does not help...
Recommended for memorizing kana!
Nice and educative!
