Update: I couldn't get past level 4 Origami Flyer because the 'ka' character wouldn't show up. Between this and the broken characters, this game need some fixes before I can recommend it. Original post: I actually think I'm learning from this, and the music is nice and relaxing. The only problem is that the characters often don't display properly and look broken. This makes it harder to do some of the later tests and could get frustrating later on. This desperately needs to be fixed in an update. However, it may be worth it (on sale) just for the unlockable hiragana alphabet and the mnemonics.3 found this helpful
Certainly would advise as a companion to pair with flash cards (for someone new to hiragana) or just as a refresher. I know my hiragana good enough but this is a fun way to touch on the odd ones I mistake at times. It has some basic games for each level that give you steam unlocks. So something to drive you to 100% the game/study. It has a little bit of history and geography as you move through each level. This is kept simple, one or two sentences, which I think works well not to take the player away from learning. Simple is good when you are trying to learn something foreign like hiragana. It suggests some mnemonics but doesn't force it. Again, simple is good. Do recommend.3 found this helpful

Rather than presenting itself as a strict study tool or digital textbook, the game frames language learning as a light adventure across Japan, blending simple lessons with interactive activities designed to reduce the stress often associated with memorization-heavy subjects. The structure of the game revolves around gradual progression through the hiragana syllabary, introducing characters in manageable groups rather than overwhelming the player all at once. Each new set of symbols is contextualized through short exercises that emphasize recognition and recall, allowing players to become familiar with shapes and sounds before moving on. This deliberate pacing makes the game especially approachable for complete beginners, including those who may have never encountered Japanese writing before. The focus is firmly on reading and recognition rather than writing stroke order, keeping the learning scope narrow and accessible. To …
