I know what you're thinking: mixed reviews, a scant Steam page, over a year since the last posted update. This game is abandoned, right? I'm happy to say that's not so. While the Steam page indeed shows no updates, a visit to Kingdom Gun's Discord server will reveal over a year of steady, consistent updates to the game build. And these updates are not merely just bugfixes - they also include sweeping balance changes to both items and weapons, and even new content, all thanks to the dedicated work of a single committed developer. There's even an additional player character in the works! The result is that, despite what the negative reviews belie, Kingdom Gun is currently a stable, fun game with more polish than you might expect. The core gameplay is fantastic: Kingdom Gun's basic formula draws on Risk of Rain, tasking you with finding a teleporter as you race against time and gather loot across each stage. But its innovation to the RoR formula lies in its veritable armory of wacky, Enter the Gungeon-esque weapons to spice up the action. The game is generous with both gun chests and ammo, and fantastic visual design means that a quick glance at each weapon more or less tells you wh…9 found this helpful
I backed this game on Kickstarter months ago, I didn't even remember that I had backed it, so it was basically like receiving a free game when it showed up in my inbox. Even still, I feel ripped off. Enemies spawn out of nowhere. UI is borderline unfinished. There are so, SO many bugs, and I don't believe the developer has any intent on fixing them. The writing is also terrible. This is a game with "Ligma's beach" as a location, and "Chad Worm" as a boss. When you die in co-op, you can't move, yet enemies still spawn on top of you and will continue to attack you. This means it's an all-out assault on your ears as the enemies all play their attack sounds over one another, while you yell at your co-op partner to hurry up and find the teleporter before you go deaf. I would seriously ask for a refund if I could. Stay away.8 found this helpful
Quick Description: -Kingdom Gun is a 2d action platformer roguelight heavily inspired by Risk of Rain. It has a gorgeous, bright, visual art style and doesn't take itself too seriously. If you are looking for a game w/ ridiculously over the top OP builds and synergies for days, than this is the game for you. Unfortunately, this game needs a lot of balancing, has quite a few bugs, and becomes very repetitive really quickly. This is a game I was really looking forward to, but one I can't recommend right now. What's Good: -The #1 thing that Kingdom Gun has going for it, is how fun it is to put together an insanely overpowered run where you decimate everything in your path. Within 2 hrs of playing, I became such an impenetrable juggernaut, that I couldn't die even when I tried to. I had lapped the game 3 times and wanted to quit, but even when I stood still in front of a bunch of enemies, I still couldn't die. It's really fun to get over a hundred upgrades from the slot machine and being crazy overpowered. -There are a lot of really unique guns. This is another selling point for this game. Some guns are extremely unique and are can blast enemies to pieces. It's a lot of fun …7 found this helpful
I bought this game thinking it might be a more fun version of Risk of Rain 1. Instead, I got a less fun version of dragging my balls against concrete.2 found this helpful
After finally playing it again since it's release, I can say I would recommend this game. Although it's not without it's flaws, I believe that it's a solid 2D Rougelite Platformer game. The only thing I'd improve upon are fixing some of the layering when it comes to the blurred background setting, as when bosses start in the background they're also blurred.
