Kombine

3/10 short only 40 levels - no undo + 1$ - no undo + nice little relaxing puzzle game - NO UNDO!!! - time trail mode is stupid, extra with no undo

Kombine is a simple but remarkably ruthless game about matching up coloured squares of the right numbers. While basic in premise, the execution puts a surprising amount of difficulty out - especially in the timed mode. That said, this game does fall into the frustratingly large category of "Solid games with interesting concepts that get ruined by a timed mode", so my feelings are tempered somewhat. In addition, the game never extends much beyond its premise - which can lead the game to feeling quite repetative over time, which tends to get amplified by the difficulty. Not a bad game, but not one I'm going to be replaying again.

I bought this last decade; it seems to be one of the games to which I think to myself "Why'd I buy this?" I can't even complete the first time trial. let alone the rest of the puzzles. So yeah, screw this. |:(

At first glance, Kombine doesn't appear to offer much of a challenge. 40 levels, and the ability to “time trial” each bracket of 10 looks like it could be easily accomplished in a matter of hours. And that is how this little game gets you. Kombine doesn't have a tutorial, and deciphering how the game operates is perhaps part of the charm. If you can't work it out by puzzle 4, then the game is probably not really aimed for your entertainment. The concept is simple – activate a colour by clicking on it, then try to ‘combine’ tiles you create into removing that colour's target from the board. Do this with 1, 2 or 3 colours per board and you are onto the next. Kombine eases you into a false sense of security within levels 1-10, but by level 18 you are seeing how the game taunts you with deceptively simple looking arrangements. By the time you have clicked restart on a single board for the 7th time though, you realise just how clever the game is. You are now trapped, and determined to finish the bracket, or at the very least the board you are stuck on. There really isn ‘t much to complain about with a game like this. Kombine is deceptively simple yet deeply satisfying. The minimalist visuals and logic rules make each level feel like a small, elegant brain teaser.

Cool Puzzle Game, the first levels were quite easy, but they get much harder. Minimalistic grafics and sounds, but gives a cozy feeling. All with mouse, easy to figure out.
