Taking inspiration from Hotline Miami, this game can be really ruthless when it comes to mistakes it differentiates itself through jin's chargeable punches that can launch doors, a throwing knife, and whatever weapon you wish to bring. There's no picking up and throwing enemy weapons in this game but what you come with is more then enough.

If you're looking at the store page for this game, you're looking for something to scratch the itch Hotline Miami left you all those years ago, you're a furry, or both. So let's cut to the chase and list the similarities between Hotline and Kusan. You die in one hit and so do your enemies, ultra-violent pixel art, banging soundtrack, occasional frustrations with things spiraling out of control very quickly, stories that debatably only exist to give a reason to the extreme violence you inflict during gameplay. That's pretty much it. Kusan does enough differently to make it into an entirely different beast. Instead of picking up weapons from the environment or dead enemies, you (almost) always have access to three; your robot arm that acts as your only melee weapon and can parry attacks, a throwing knife that can be recovered, and a gun with one magazine (although you can pick up more ammo during each stage). Oh, and your robot arm is called the War-Hand. That's not important but I think its sorta cool. Each of these weapons can be upgraded, a few examples being allowing you to charge your melee attack to punch through doors and turn anything unfortunate enough to stand near it into…

Furry Hotline Miami basically. Fills that spot left wanting more hotline Miami action, while also adding alot of new elements to define it as it's own thing. Each enemy has their own unique attacks which helps keep you on your toes and keeping the gameplay loop feeling fresh. Each stage also features of number of different routes that reward creativity and exploration, helping you deal with problematic enemies in your own way. Upgrades felt impactful and helps you tailor the gameplay to your preferred style or to more easily deal with the annoyances of some enemies. Sections felt very challenging but doable still, with bosses that greatly punish your mistakes and require you to pay attention and learn their patterns vs senseless attacking. The story was engaging while not overstaying it's welcome, and I enjoyed the Manga style in between story sections that were blended with in game scripted cinematic like moments that make your character feel like a badass while not taking the controls away from you very much. The soundtrack is an absolute banger track after track with bass pumping beats that really go along with the fast paced action and is officially one of my favorites. …

Hotline Miami on steroids, with a rocket-propelled fist up its butt and a soundtrack that slays.

I can confidently say that in the less than an hour that I've played, I had an amazing experience. Not only did I feel the same adrenaline-fueled rampage as the ever-compared Hotline Miami, but it heavily expands on the combat with new abilities and upgrades, as well as environments that react much more vividly to the action. This game is worth every penny, especially at the very generous price point.
