Land of Ngoto

Could have been a good game, but refunded because of tedious slide puzzles. I refuse to pay for slide puzzles, there isn't a point to have them in first person puzzle games unless it's a new mechanic.

Logic puzzles set within an African dreamscape induced by ibogaine surrealism. Land of Ngoto's environments and models are highly detailed and evoke an otherworldly oriental realm.

It's definitely not a great game. Pretty much everything about it is mediocre, except for the phantasmic atmosphere and a few clever puzzles. Even then, not all of the puzzles are good. • The intro and ending to the game are extremely tedious. The ending is literally 5 straight minutes of walking through a flat, barren field with nothing to look at or do. • A number of the puzzles are just bad (particularly the emblem-to-shield and color-to-animal puzzles) • A number of the puzzles are just trial-and-error guessing games (particularly the balls-to-mouths and water-level puzzles) • A few times the next level didn't load and I fell through the floor, falling forever and requiring a manual restart. • A few times I got stuck in objects and had to restart The correct rating for this game is definitely a "neutral", but since that's not an option on Steam, I was [i]barely[/i] swung over to a positive by the unique atmosphere and a handful of clever/original puzzles. I would say give this a try…

So far I am enjoying this game. It's quite surreal and abstract. Love the logic puzzles in it so far. My only issue is the animation and audio seem to be choppy at times. A lot of the audio during the opening scene cut out completely, and it appeared to skip a couple of times. I don't know if it was the game itself or if it was my system that was causing it. I am running Windows 10 on a system that's at least 5 years old (belonged to my mom, then she let me have it a year-and-a-half ago when I made noises I wanted to save up for a new desktop with gaming capabilities). I have noticed that gameplay is choppy in some areas, but again, that could just be my system. I do wish the mouse cursor was a little more visible, making it easier to locate it when trying to pick up objects or move pieces in a puzzle. I think this game would be very good (perhaps better) for VR rather than PCs. While I do enjoy playing it and other similar games on the PC, I think with the context it would be best as a VR game.
