About Lone King
Please offer feedback for final release.
Simultaneous-turn-based tactics with a single mech against a small army. Simple controls inspired by chess. Play the first two story chapters and arcade mode for free, and comment in the Steam forums to voice your opinion on problems and suggestions.
Choose your Maniple and give it a single order: where to move. Attacks, abilities, hacking, and environmental effects are contextually triggered, and each Maniple moves and attacks differently. The challenge of this game's design was to offer strategic depth with a simple control scheme.
Levels are randomly generated with random combinations and positions of enemies, enemy abilities, and terrain. The game is designed around quick matches that last around 5-10 minutes. You can instead customise the setup, or just remove game modes, stages, and characters from the random rotation if you don't like them.
- Two chapters are available for free
- Learn how to play while jumping into the ending of one story and beginning of another
- Simple cinematics
Point and Click?
- Return to the station for a brief first-person point and click experience
- Get to know the characters and explore your base of operations

All-Random mode
- Remove game modes/locations/characters from the random rotation
Custom Setup
- Default game mode/location/character can be set
Campaign Mode
- Play 8 missions, one in each stage
- Select which maniple to deploy on which mission. Maniples cannot be reused.
- Conduct rescue missions to save fallen maniples
- Initiate retreat protocol and escape to the exfiltration point to avoid falling

- 8 stages to play on with unique environmental hazards, terrain styles, and aesthetics
- 8 player characters with unique weapons and movement, and unique active, passive, and defect abilities
- 8 game modes with and without boss units, with and without normal enemies, waves of respawning enemies, destroying the VIP, and a testing mode
- 8 difficulty levels that give your characters interesting weaknesses, give the enemy new abilities, add mechanics like enemy pathfinding and weapon lock-on, and increased environmental hazards
- 8 enemy units with unique weapons and equipment like missiles, shields, mines, backup weapons, and cover to block your path
- 8 enemy boss units that are harder to kill and pose a greater threat

- Adds two active abilities to each character for a much needed variety of gameplay options
- Play with multiple characters together at the cost of a health penalty

This is the most epic low budget "Gundam" game I've ever played. Honestly this is such a simple game in both gameplay, UI and graphics but it captures such a grand scale that I'm honestly surprised I have not seen this formula before. Both giving a sense of fresh air and the nostalgic feeling of playing with toys back when I was a child. For whoever is reading this, its definetly a very niche and indie game, but if you already found this looking for lesser known game on the mecha/gundam genres or a new take on tactical turn-based, this is worth trying out, taking into account it is a very simple and yet strangely intuitive game wich I could best summarize as a turn based jousting/evading TRPG. My only complaint is that the game already crashed as I did the first time control settings setup, could use some more bugfixing for stability. Kudos to the dev team. SPOILER ALERT BELOW: [spoiler] Lastly, the mission that locks you out of simply ending it on the victory prompt is such a simple thing that turns into such a cool story point on this interface that caught me off guard.
tl;dr: ore wa gundam (REVIEW SUMMARY BELOW!) FULL DISCLAIMER: I've only spent about 53 minutes in this game and throughout the 53 minutes I spent on this game, 95% of it was spent learning the mechanics and learning what each visual indicator represents throughout this game. The game thankfully has a "Sandbox" feature where you can go to different maps, learn it's layout, and most importantly, try out different mechs (maniples) and pit it against various enemies. The game calls these giant space robots as Maniples, but I'll just be referring them to as Mechs from now on. I accidentally stumbled across this game on a boring 1AM on the 26th of December 2023. I decided, "Y'know, I love mechs, and my horrible laptop cannot handle most modern 3D titles, let's see what mech games we have that are 2D." Lo and behold, there's this game. I don't really have a "Pros" and "Cons" as of right now. But I will say, it's a fun game that I got for absolutely nothing and probably one of the few games released in the 2020s that I can run on my toaster comfortably well. I will say however, the game does not do a good job of describing the various abilities / moves that each mechs can do. From what…
