What Steam players say

Players appreciate the game's substantial length, Japanese RPG aesthetic, and visual style, with some finding it a worthwhile experience that recalls classics like Shadow Hearts. However, many criticize the confusing and poorly-told story that feels disjointed and difficult to follow, the repetitive design that feels dated, and a final boss that spikes dramatically in difficulty and can feel unfairly punishing. Overall, the game shows potential but struggles with storytelling execution and pacing issues that lead some players to abandon it.
Finally cleared and platinum it. I gave 6.7/10 Story is short and compact It did feel confused most of the time. For the ending part I really don't mind at all and It's actually give me a good chuckle. Characters design look good. My favorite character is Butterfly, she's a feisty one. There are some BGM that sound like a whale in pain. But the gameplay.. Both the battle and the mini game weren't fun at all. The battle and equipment system remind me of those atrocious gacha games where I have to squeeze everything just to barely get above 50% crit rate. The farming for gears/exp is very tedious the enemies is hard to kill by just one turn and gold/exp reward per battle is measly. That mean you would be stuck on that one chapter taking a long time farming until you strong and very well geared enough to take on the boss and dungeon in that chapter. No one hit skill or shortcut. Now to the minigame "Mind/Hack" It's a deck building game just like slay the spine except you can't do anything to your deck like buy a new card or get rid of the card your have or upgrade it (you can technically upgrade the whole deck but it changed into different deck). The main game battle already alrea…1 found this helpful
Don't expect to see the end of this game if decide to buy and play it! It all starts out well as a very Japanese feeling RPG and I mainly enjoyed completing missions and leveling up my characters. Until reaching the final boss battle! Suddenly the difficulty ramps up to a ridiculous level. I Suddenly felt like all my characters at this point were very underpowered due to the final boss having a move that can wipe out your full party with just one shot despite using every heath potion and heal ability my team possessed. There are several guides out there that suggest focusing on healing and saving your characters special abilities to use on the two orbs that appear before the boss uses his wipe out move but I couldn't achieve success with these tactics and rapidly lost the patience to keep trying after the 15th attempt. This to my mind shows a lack of balance in the game design and a lack of respect for the players time. I should not have been able to reach the final boss fight with inadequate weapons or abilities if the gameplay balancing had been done correctly. I have now uninstalled the game but it will now annoy and niggle at the back of my mind because I could not finish…1 found this helpful
It's been more than two years since I abandoned this game, but I still think that it actually had some real potential. Art style, the visuals of the world and in parts even the atmosphere are quite nice, but it fell apart quick. The issue for me was the story and even more the way it was told. I don't have the slightest clue what they were going for, but it felt like some alien entity tried to convey a story and miserably failed. It's difficult to convey the weirdness of it, I guess you have to see for yourself if your curious. But spoiler: I don't think it's worth it.1 found this helpful
Developed by Arrowiz and published by Prime Matter, Mato Anomalies presents a refreshing interpretation of the turn-based RPG genre by combining cyberpunk science fiction, supernatural horror, detective investigation, and anime-inspired storytelling into one cohesive experience. Rather than following the familiar medieval fantasy formula, the game takes players into the bustling metropolis of Mato, a city where advanced technology exists alongside ancient secrets and mysterious dimensions. Its stylish visual presentation and narrative-driven design immediately set it apart, creating an intriguing atmosphere that encourages players to uncover the truth hidden beneath the city's glamorous exterior. The story follows two central protagonists whose contrasting roles shape the entire adventure. Doe works as a clever private investigator, solving unusual cases and gathering clues from the citizens of Mato, while Gram serves as a powerful exorcist tasked with confronting the dangerous entities that emerge from supernatural rifts. Their partnership gradually exposes a web of conspiracies involving corrupt organizations, hidden powers, and mysterious anomalies threatening the city's future…
Not fun. :) Sure, it’s feature‑complete, but overall not enjoyable. I nearly dozed off multiple times while finishing the story. Still, I did finish it. I’d describe the game as a linear visual novel‑style RPG with turn‑based combat and open‑world exploration, though its visuals and repetitive design are reminiscent of games from 20 years ago.
https://youtu.be/Sqlmyhdgux0 Immediately spreading out the narrative and mechanics wafer thin it's a lot of lore dump without enough context to build upon.
