About MegaRace 1
You know those punk highway gangs, the ones who really think they rule the road? You just hate them, don't you? So you say, 'Somebody ought to do something about them criminal highway gangs!' And we say, 'Oh yeah?! Well, why don't YOU do something, mister big-mouth!'. You don't have the car? We'll give you the car! You don't want to get arrested for taking the law into your own hands? Not a problem! You know why? Because it AIN'T REAL! It's a whole lot better than real, baby! It's virtual television: reality's worst nightmare!
* Aggressive, high-velocity, futuristic racing
* Breathtaking visuals for their time, achieved by using prerendered video sequences
* Sometimes witty, sometimes just plain cheap commentaries by the memorable Lance Boyle

Look, I've actually played a lot longer than 11 minutes, but a quirk in how the devs set the game up means it shows as only playing a tiny fragment of the actual time played. I don't know my actual play time here either. What I do know is I've more or less finished the game before last I recall (it's been a while) and the game is a short (more like 30 minutes to an hour short, not 11 minutes short) but fun arcade-ish... rail shooter thing? I dunno, this game isn't a racing game like it sounds like it is! Does involve driving though, and does have steering that works more like an old arcade racer like Pole Position where the turns more-so push you left and right and "turning" kind of more-so makes you strafe. The game plays far better for it. Oh yeah, and this game is also known for being very, very funny. You've probably already heard about that, but I'm going to second it. Also the thing I like most about this game is actually the world-building myself. Despite the short runtime of the game, you can learn... quite a lot about the world the game takes place in from paying enough attention to some of the details in it. A world that's equal parts awe-inspiring and utterly horri…2 found this helpful
The racing part is abysmal. This game came out as the first Need for Speed. But the weird FMV just sell it for me.1 found this helpful
MegaRace 1 is a striking artifact from the early CD-ROM era, a game that feels less like a conventional racer and more like an interactive television spectacle wrapped around vehicular combat. Developed by Cryo Interactive in collaboration with the Jordan Freeman Group and published by Microids, it embraces a bold, experimental design philosophy that was emblematic of the mid-1990s, when developers were eager to fuse full-motion video, arcade action, and futuristic aesthetics into something that felt unmistakably new. Playing it today, especially through its Steam release, feels like stepping into a time capsule that preserves both the ambition and the limitations of that period. At its core, the game presents racing as a deadly televised competition, where the goal is not simply to finish first but to eliminate every rival on the track. The races unfold along pre-rendered courses, with the player’s vehicle locked into a forward path and only allowed to shift laterally, accelerate, or brake. This on-rails structure is a direct consequence of the game’s reliance on FMV and pre-rendered environments, and it fundamentally shapes how the experience feels. Instead of precision cornerin…1 found this helpful
Needing to modify a config file so you can convince Steam you've played it for at least 5 minutes is a real trip down the DOShole memory box. Anyway, it's an alright racing game. Pretty simple tracks, silly FMV, somewhat awful gunplay.. But a banging soundtrack, so that's cool.
It's honesty quite good!
An extremely simple combat/racing game where your only goal is to come first by any means necessary. It runs in DOSBox rather than being a source port, and although there's controller support, many buttons are bound to the same function due to the limited scope of the controls. It's aight.
